Keratocystoma of palatal minor salivary glands: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery
Keratocystoma is a rare benign tumor of the salivary glands. Initially described as a choristoma by Seifert et al. in 1999, the term “keratocystoma” was later proposed by Nagao et al. in 2001. The parotid gland is the most common site of occurrence. Only

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Clinicopathologic Study of Oral Mucosa-Derived Hamartomas and Choristomas and Literature Review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dentistry
This study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic and clinicopathological data of oral soft tissue hamartomas and choristomas. A cross-sectional study was delineated to quantitatively analyze oral soft tissue hamartomas and choristomas cases diagnosed

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Diagnostic Value of Cytokeratin 17 during Oral Carcinogenesis: An Immunohistochemical Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dentistry, 2021
Background. Little is known about the role of cytokeratin 17 (CK17) during oral carcinogenesis. CK17 expression in oral leukoplakia (OL), the most encountered oral potentially malignant disorders and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), remains very ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

TOPICAL CORTICOSTEROIDS IN ORAL PATHOLOGY [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of IMAB, 2010
Topical corticosteroids have been commonly used over the last 50 years to treat various inflammatory mucosal conditions. The wide spectrum of potencies and bases allows these medications to be used effectively and safely under the care of an experienced ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Histopathological Spectrum of a Calcifying Odontogenic Cyst With Uncommon Findings

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry
Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is an uncommon lesion accounting for less than 1% of all odontogenic cysts. This pathology commonly affects the anterior jaw and is prevalent in the second to third decades of life, with no sex predilection.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.
