Field Optimization in a Segmented-Electrode Orbitrap

Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry
This paper presents an optimization method for the imperfect potential field of a segmented-electrode Orbitrap. The segmented-electrode Orbitrap consists of a complete cylindrical inner electrode and a set of concentrically arranged segmented conical outer electrodes, offering a design that is more straightforward to manufacture than the traditional ...

Numerical analysis of segmented-electrode Orbitraps

International Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2016
Simple geometries which are possible alternatives for the Orbitrap are studied in this paper. We have taken up for numerical investigation two segmented-electrode structures, ORB1 and ORB2, to mimic the electric field of the Orbitrap. In the ORB1, the inner spindle-like electrode and the outer barrel-like electrode of the Orbitrap have been replaced by

Improving Spatial Resolution of a LTQ Orbitrap MALDI Source

Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, 2020
Here we present a simple and cost effective procedure to improve the spatial resolution of the commercial MALDI source of a LTQ Orbitrap. Based in spatial filtering techniques, we demonstrate that, with minimal modifications of the original set up, the system resolution can be pushed forward to

Interfacing the Orbitrap Mass Analyzer to an Electrospray Ion Source

Analytical Chemistry, 2003
The orbitrap mass analyzer employs the trapping of pulsed ion beams in an electrostatic quadro-logarithmic field. This field is created between an axial central electrode and a coaxial outer electrode. Stable ion trajectories combine rotation around the central electrode with harmonic oscillations along it.

Comparison of Dip‐it‐DART‐Orbitrap‐MS With Nitrogen Plasma to HPLC/Orbitrap‐MS in Profiling Aromatic Glycoconjugation in White Grapes

Journal of Mass Spectrometry
ABSTRACT Direct analysis of aromatic glycosidic precursors in plants has posed an analytical challenge for decades. Traditional techniques, such as SPE‐GC/MS, primarily provided information on volatile aglycones released through hydrolysis.

Space-charge dynamics in Orbitrap mass spectrometers

International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2019
The paper deals with space-charge interactions in the ion population trapped in the Orbitrap[Formula: see text] mass analyzer where the ions perform multiple quasi-harmonic oscillations in the axial direction. The many-particle problem for interacting ions is mathematically complicated and its solution, even numerical, is obstructed by the required ...

Top-Down Proteomics by Means of Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry

2014
Top-down proteomics has become a popular approach for the analysis of intact proteins. The term "top down" has been coined for the analysis of proteins not involving any enzymatic or chemical cleavage but rather the ionization of the protein as a sound molecule and mass analysis of intact species and fragment ions thereof produced upon dissociation ...
