This chapter assesses how and why The Lord of the Rings has gained so much resonance in Russian culture, to the point where one of the series' most loathsome antagonists (the Orcs) becomes a self-mocking symbol of post-Soviet Russia. It begins by addressing the larger question of Western mass culture and non-Western audiences during and after the Cold ...

The Orce skull: anatomy of a mistake

Replication and Transcription: Silence of the ORCs
Current Biology, 1994The origin recognition complex, a multi-protein complex known to bind to replication origins, has now been implicated in transcriptional silencing, providing another link between DNA replication and transcription.

AbstractThe origin recognition complex (ORC) is a conserved heterohexamer required for the formation of pre‐replication (pre‐RC) complexes at origins of DNA replication. Many studies of ORC subunits have been carried out in transformed human cell lines but the properties of ORC in primary cells have not been addressed.

INVESTIGATION OF THE COMBİNED TLC – ORC AND THE COMBİNED ORC – ORC POWER SYSTEMS
2019One of the bestperformances in waste heat and power generation systems is the organic Rankinecycle. The difference of the Organic Rankine Cycle from the basic Steam RankineCycle is the use of organic fluids as the working fluid. Power generation canbe achieved from low temperature heat sources (80-90oC) with organicfluids.

ORC proteins: marking the start
Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 2009The DNA replication apparatus of archaea is more closely related to that of eukaryotes than eubacteria. Furthermore, recent work has shown that archaea, like eukaryotes, have multiple replication origins. Biochemical data are starting to reveal how archaeal origin binding proteins recognise and remodel origin DNA sequences.

Orc Marxism: A review of The Mismeasure of Orcs
Lee Konstantinou reviews Robert Tally's The Mismeasure of Orcs, arguing that their inconsistent humanization signals a contradiction central to the fantasy genre.openaire +1 more source

Broadly speaking, Primitivism was a high cultural construction of positive response to an orally based folk culture which was beginning to suffer large-scale attrition through improved communications, migration to cities, clearances and war. It provided a cultural counterweight to the modernization and rationalization of society represented by ...

A Compositional Trace Semantics for Orc
2008Orc [9] is a language for task orchestration. It has a small set of primitives, but sufficient to express many useful programs succinctly. We identify an ambiguity in the trace semantics of Kitchin et al. [9]. We give possible interpretations of the ambiguous definition and show that the semantics is not adequate regardless of the interpretation.

Virtual model for ORC – Whole ORC modeling: WOM
2017In recent years, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been applied for the design and analysis of positive displacement machines (both compressors and expanders) used in organic Rankine cycle (ORC) systems, as well as for other components such as heat exchangers. The virtualization of the whole ORC model can be carried out in order to build a virtual
