Boundary conditions in first order gravity: Hamiltonian and Ensemble

open access: yes, 2005
In this work two different boundary conditions for first order gravity, corresponding to a null and a negative cosmological constant respectively, are studied. Both boundary conditions allows to obtain the standard black hole thermodynamics.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Necessary and Sufficient Second-Order Optimality Conditions on Hadamard Manifolds

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
This work is intended to lead a study of necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for scalar optimization problems on Hadamard manifolds. In the context of this geometry, we obtain and present new function types characterized by the property of ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

New Oscillation Conditions for Second Order Half-Linear Advanced Difference Equations [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematical, Engineering and Management Sciences, 2019
This paper aims to establish adequate conditions that are intended for the oscillation of every solution of the second order advanced type half-linear difference equations with noncanonical form.

Fundamental Conditions for N-th Order Accurate Lattice Boltzmann Models

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, we theoretically prove a set of fundamental conditions pertaining discrete velocity sets and corresponding weights. These conditions provide sufficient conditions for a priori formulation of lattice Boltzmann models that automatically ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Nonresonance conditions for fourth order nonlinear boundary value problems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1994
This paper is devoted to the study of the problemu(4)=f(t,u,u′,u″,u‴),u(0)=u(2π),   u′(0)=u′(2π),   u″(0)=u″(2π),   u‴(0)=u‴(2π).We assume that f can be written under the formf(t,u,u′,u″,u‴)=f2(t,u,u′,u″,u‴)u″+f1(t,u,u′,u″,u‴)u′+f0(t,u,u′,u″,u‴)u+r(t,u,u′

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
