Boundary regularity for quasi-linear elliptic equations with lower order term

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2017
We give results of summability up to the boundary for the solutions to quasi-linear elliptic equations involving the p-Laplace operator and a term depending on the gradient of the solution.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Adult Teaching Methods in China and Bloom’s Taxonomy

open access: yesInternational Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2008
Drawing from Bloom’s 1956 Taxonomy and Western theories on adult learning, the authors argue that adult teaching methods in China feature a teacher-centered, information-based and test-driven instructional format.

On the Complexity of Lower-Order Implementations of Higher-Order Methods

open access: yes
In this work, we propose a method for minimizing non-convex functions with Lipschitz continuous $p$th-order derivatives, starting from $p \geq 1$. The method, however, only requires derivative information up to order $(p-1)$, since the $p$th-order derivatives are approximated via finite differences.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Lower Bounds of Decay Order of Eigenfunctlons of Second-order Elliptic Operators

open access: yesPublications of the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, 1985
Some estimates for the lower bounds of eigenvalues are established for the second order elliptic equations of the form: \[ -(D,ADu)+qu=\lambda u\quad in\quad \Omega;\quad u\in H^ 2_{loc} (\Omega) \] supp u is not a compact subset of \(\Omega\).

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
