Design of order picking system
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2008Numerous design and cost parameters, combined with an endless variety of equipment types, make it difficult to choose the right order picking system (OPS). The purpose of this study is to develop a methodology to support warehouse designers in choosing the most suitable OPS.

Order-picking industrial robot
Robotica, 1990SUMMARYOrder-picking, i.e. arranging work-pieces of different types on a pallet, which is nowadays often carried out manually, will in future be more and more automated for economic reasons. The industrial robot in combination with an intelligent gripper, a supporting palletizing and order-picking software and a suitably designed periphery will permit ...

PICKING CLUMPY ORDERS ON A CAROUSEL
Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 2004Carousels are rotatable closed-loop storage systems for small items, where items are stored in bins along the loop. An order at a carousel consists of (say) n different items stored there. We analyze two problems: (1) minimizing the total time to fill an order (travel time) and (2) order delays as they arrive, are filled, and depart.

Pick-by-vision: augmented reality supported order picking
The Visual Computer, 2009Order picking is one of the most important process steps in logistics. Due to their flexibility, human beings cannot be replaced by machines. But if workers in order picking systems are equipped with a head-mounted display, Augmented Reality can improve the information visualization.

Algorithms for on-line order batching in an order picking warehouse [PDF]
In manual order picking systems, order pickers walk or ride through a distribution warehouse in order to collect items required by (internal or external) customers. Order batching consists of combining these - indivisible - customer orders into picking orders.

Abstract A classical order picking problem is the case where items have to be picked from both sides of an aisle and the picker cannot reach items on both sides without changing position. Hence the picker must cross the aisle one or more times. An efficient optimal algorithm is developed and shown to yield policies with up to 30% savings in travel time

Order Batching in Order Picking Warehouses: A Survey of Solution Approaches [PDF]
Order picking is a warehouse function dealing with the retrieval of articles from their storage location in order to satisfy a given demand specified by customer orders. Of all warehouse operations, order picking is considered to include the most cost-intensive ones. Even though there have been different attempts to automate the picking process, manual

The Effect of Order Batching on a Cyclical Order Picking System
2021Order batching on a unidirectional cyclical picking system implemented at a prominent South African retailer is investigated. Four interdependent sub-problems are solved sequentially to optimise the entire system. These sub-problems are (a) the picking line assignment problem, (b) the stock keeping unit arrangement problem, (c) the system configuration

Supporting order picking with Augmented Reality
2008 7th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality, 2008We report on recent progress in the iterative process of exploring, evaluating and refining Augmented Reality-based methods to support the order picking process. We present our findings from three user studies and from demonstrations at several exhibitions.
