Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Document processing for adaptive page segmentation using order statistic filters

open access: yes, 2001
Page segmentation is one of the important and basic research subjects of document analysis. Traditionally, there are two major kinds of page segmentation approaches. One is the top-down approach and the other is the bottom-up approach.

Clustering Algorithm Reveals Dopamine‐Motor Mismatch in Cognitively Preserved Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the relationship between dopaminergic denervation and motor impairment in two de novo Parkinson's disease (PD) cohorts. Methods n = 249 PD patients from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and n = 84 from an external clinical cohort.

Second-order approximation for adaptive regression estimators.

open access: yes
We derive asymptotic expansions for semiparametric adaptive regression estimators. In particular, we derive the asymptotic distribution of the second-order effect of an adaptive estimator in a linear regression whose error density is of unknown ...

A statistic on involutions

open access: yes, 2001
We define a statistic, called weight, on involutions and consider two applications in which this statistic arises. Let I(n) denote the set of all involutions on [n](={1,2,..., n}) and let F(2n) denote the set of all fixed point free involutions on [2n ...

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Small Samples’ Permille Cramér–Von Mises Statistic Critical Values for Continuous Distributions as Functions of Sample Size

open access: yesData
Along with other order statistics, the Cramér–von Mises (CM) statistic can assess the goodness of fit. CM does not have an explicit formula for the cumulative distribution function and the alternate way is to obtain its critical value from a Monte Carlo (

CX3CL1 in Early Detection of Alzheimer's Disease: Plasma Dynamics Across Age and Disease Stages

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Backgrounds Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by amyloid‐beta plaques, tau tangles, and neuroinflammation. C‐X3‐C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CX3CL1, also known as fractalkine), a neuroimmune chemokine implicated in AD pathogenesis, shows inconsistent alterations in plasma/serum across studies.
