The Structure and Freezing of fluids interacting via the Gay-Berne (n-6) potentials

open access: yes, 2001
We have calculated the pair correlation functions of a fluid interacting via the Gay-Berne(n-6) pair potentials using the \PY integral equation theory and have shown how these correlations depend on the value of n which measures the sharpness of the ...

Ordered Weighted Average Based Fuzzy Rough Sets

open access: yes, 2010
Traditionally, membership to the fuzzy-rough lower, resp. upper approximation is determined by looking only at the worst, resp. best performing object. Consequently, when applied to data analysis problems, these approximations are sensitive to noisy and/or outlying samples.

Randomly Weighted Averages on Order Statistics

open access: yesApplied Mathematics, 2013
We study a well-known problem concerning a random variable uniformly distributed between two independent random variables. Two different extensions, randomly weighted average on independent random variables and randomly weighted average on order statistics, have been introduced for this problem.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

An Approach to Multi-attribute Group Decision Making with Trapezoidal Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Sets and Application to Teaching Quality Assessment

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Systems, 2014
Trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy sets (TIT2FSs) are a special kind of type-2 fuzzy sets. TIT2FSs are useful in dealing with fuzziness inherent in decision data and the decision-making process.

Canalizing Kauffman networks: non-ergodicity and its effect on their critical behavior

open access: yes, 2005
Boolean Networks have been used to study numerous phenomena, including gene regulation, neural networks, social interactions, and biological evolution. Here, we propose a general method for determining the critical behavior of Boolean systems built from ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Ising model on two connected Barabasi-Albert networks

open access: yes, 2006
We investigate analytically the behavior of Ising model on two connected Barabasi-Albert networks. Depending on relative ordering of both networks there are two possible phases corresponding to parallel or antiparallel alingment of spins in both networks.

Shortcomings of the Bond Orientational Order Parameters for the Analysis of Disordered Particulate Matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Local structure characterization with the bond-orientational order parameters q4, q6, ... introduced by Steinhardt et al. has become a standard tool in condensed matter physics, with applications including glass, jamming, melting or crystallization ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
