Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment With Ordinal Pattern Kernel
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) belongs to the prodromal stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Accurate diagnosis of MCI is very important for possibly deferring AD progression. Graph kernels, which measure the similarity between paired brain connectivity networks, have been widely used to diagnose brain diseases (e.g., MCI) and yielded promising ...

Detection of time reversibility in time series by ordinal patterns analysis. [PDF]
Time irreversibility is a common signature of nonlinear processes and a fundamental property of non-equilibrium systems driven by non-conservative forces.

Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

To address the issue of whether there exists determinism in a two-phase flow system, we first conduct a gas-liquid two-phase flow experiment to collect the flow pattern fluctuation signals.

Impact of Asymptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage on Outcome After Endovascular Stroke Treatment
ABSTRACT Background Endovascular treatment (EVT) achieves high rates of recanalization in acute large‐vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke, but functional recovery remains heterogeneous. While symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) has been well studied, the prognostic impact of asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (aICH) after EVT is less certain ...

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

Ordinal patterns have proven to be a valuable tool in many fields. Here, we address the need for theoretical models. A paradigmatic example shows that a model for frequencies of ordinal patterns can be determined without any numerical values.

FDG‐PET Associations With Disease Severity and Outcomes in NMDA‐Receptor IgG Autoimmune Encephalitis
ABSTRACT Background Patients with N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) receptor‐immunoglobulin G (IgG) autoimmune encephalitis (NMDAR‐IgG AE) demonstrate occipital lobe hypometabolism on baseline brain fluorodeoxyglucose‐positron emission tomography (bFDG‐PET).
