Strain comparisons in aquaculture species: a manual [PDF]
When different strains or breeds of a particular species are available, the best choice is seldom immediately obvious for producers. Scientists are also interested in the relative performance of different strains because it provides a basis for ...

Bioimaging of the sense organs and brain of fishes and reptiles. Left panel: 3D reconstruction of the head and brain of the deep‐sea viperfish Chauliodus sloani following diceCT. Right panel: A 3D reconstruction of a 70‐day‐old embryo head of the bearded dragon Pogona vitticeps following diceCT, showing the position of the segmented brain within the ...

Urbanization reshapes fish communities via environmental filtering. Surveying 44 sites across an urban (Huadi) and a relatively natural (Zengjiang) river in the Pearl River Basin (2024), we linked environmental variables to fish functional traits using RLQ and SEM, finding that dissolved oxygen is the dominant filter in urban reaches—selecting low ...

This review summarizes the sources, preparation strategies, and mechanisms of hypoglycaemic peptides, with particular emphasis on the glucose‐lowering potential of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. It also highlights their prospective applications and current challenges in the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals for diabetes management ...

Abstract BACKGROUND Slaughter is a critical phase in aquaculture that can severely compromise both animal welfare and product quality. Stress responses triggered during this stage may accelerate post‐mortem biochemical degradation and promote oxidative damage in fish fillets. Essential oils, known for their antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties,

ABSTRACT Histone proteins are key players in chromatin packaging. In eukaryotes, nucleosomal cores—the DNA packaging fundamental units—are formed by composition of histone dimers. The double histone fold is a protein structure where two consecutive regions, each featuring histone fold, come together to create a histone pseudodimer. Although regarded as

ABSTRACT Enzymatic hydrolysis is used to produce protein hydrolysates from animal‐ and plant‐based sources, which are widely utilized in industry due to their nutritional, functional, and bioactive properties. However, these hydrolysates can exhibit unattractive sensory properties, such as off‐flavors or off‐odors, which limit their use in food ...

Antibiotics reshape fish gut microbiota, promoting antimicrobial‐resistant bacteria (ARB) emergence. In the dry season, ARB accumulate in water and dominate a specific niche. Wet‐season hydrological changes introduce new bacteria, disturb native communities and drive shifts in AMB abundance and the emergence of novel resistant taxa across compartments.

Integration of epigenetics into ecotoxicology: insights and fundamental research needs
ABSTRACT Epigenetics refers to heritable changes in genome function that occur without direct alterations to the DNA sequence. A multitude of environmental contaminants can influence the epigenetic marks of a genome. Changes of epigenetic marks including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non‐coding RNAs can induce alterations at the gene ...
