If a fish comes out of the river and speaks, we should believe it: South African perspective on fish kills

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 41, Issue 2, Page 426-447, February 2025.
Abstract In South Africa, fish kill events are increasing in frequency because of multiple stressors associated with managing natural resources. Despite the ecosystem services associated with fish, South Africa's progressive legislation towards environmental protection seems to negate the management of fish kills.

Sulawesi stream fish communities depend on connectivity and habitat diversity

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 106, Issue 2, Page 358-375, February 2025.
Abstract Streams provide an array of habitat niches that may act as environmental filters for fish communities. The tropical island of Sulawesi in Indonesia is located in the Wallacea, a region isolated by marine barriers from the Asian and Australian faunas.

The Research Advances in Distant Hybridization and Gynogenesis in Fish

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Distant hybridization and gynogenesis are two prevalent breeding techniques for fishes. Drawing from the research achievements of our team and the existing literature, we summarize the reproductive traits and genetic features of fishes derived from distant hybridizations and gynogenesis, and we deduce the fundamental mechanisms of these two ...

Parasites of the invasive tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus: evidence for co-introduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Reduced parasite species diversity and infection intensity on invasive populations can facilitate establishment and spread of invasive species. We investigated the parasite diversity of invasive populations of tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus from ...
