Titan's Organic Chemistry [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1985
Voyager discovered nine simple organic molecules in the atmosphere of Titan. Complex organic solids, called tholins, produced by irradiation of simulated Titanian atmosphere are consistent with measured properties of Titan from ultraviolet to microwave frequencies, and are the likely main constituents of the observed red aerosols.

Three-center-four-electron halogen bond enables non-metallic complex catalysis for Mukaiyama-Mannich-type reaction

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: The three-center-four-electron halogen bond (3c4e X-bond) presents a fundamental design concept for catalysis. By integrating halogen(I) (X+: I+ or Br+), the bis-pyridyl ligand NN, and a non-nucleophilic counteranion Y, we developed non-metallic

Turing patterns by supramolecular self-assembly of a single salphen building block

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: In the 1950s, Alan Turing showed that concerted reactions and diffusion of activating and inhibiting chemical species can autonomously generate patterns without previous positional information, thus providing a chemical basis for morphogenesis ...

Analysis of Students’ Missed Organic Chemistry Quiz Questions that Stress the Importance of Prior General Chemistry Knowledge

open access: yesEducation Sciences, 2018
A concern about students’ conceptual difficulties in organic chemistry prompted this study. It was found that prior knowledge from general chemistry was critical in organic chemistry, but what were some of the concepts that comprised that prior ...
