Soil biological quality of grassland fertilized with adjusted cattle manure slurries in comparison with organic and inorganic fertilizers

open access: yes, 2009
We studied the effect of five fertilizers (including two adjusted manure slurries) and an untreated control on soil biota and explored the effect on the ecosystem services they provided.

Chitosan‐Carbon Dot Composite Materials Form a Leaf Surface Barrier to Mitigate the Enrichment and Invasion of Nanoplastics: From Leaf Interface to Systemic Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Foliar spraying of CS‐CDs can form a film on the leaves of Brassica rapa, effectively reducing the enrichment and absorption of PS in the leaves, while increasing the biomass and nutrient content of the plants. In addition, CS‐CDs can also enrich the interfoliar microbial community and activate the plant's own defense metabolic pathways.

Supply and Demand Analysis Model of Compost and Liquid Organic Fertilizer for Circulative Utilization of Organic Waste in Nagasaki Prefecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
As the result of fertilizer and feed importation the region has lead to material imbalance. A possible measure to alleviate this situation is to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and promote the intra-regional circulation of substances by returning ...

The Third‐Generation Magnetic Super‐Stable Mineralizer: Complete Removal and Separation of Multiple Heavy Metal Pollutants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 3rd‐generation magnetic super‐stable mineralizer M‐MgAl‐700 features a core‐shell structure, strong superparamagnetism, large surface area, and abundant oxygen defects. It achieves exceptional Cd(II) and As(V) mineralization capacities, reducing both pollutants in co‐contaminated water and soil to meet national standards.

Effects of Biochar-Based Fertilizer on Root Zeta Potential, Nutrient Leaching and Yield in an Intensive Protected Cropping System

open access: yesLand
Rising global demand for food and fibre requires more efficient and sustainable fertilizer strategies. Biochar mineral complexes (BMC) are being developed for use as an organic alternative to conventional synthetic fertilizers, or to supplement ...

Impacts of Inventory Credit, Input Supply Shops and Fertilizer Micro-Dosing in the Drylands of Niger

open access: yes
This study investigates the impacts of access to inventory credit (warrantage), input supply shops, fertilizer micro-dosing demonstrations, and other factors on farmers' use of inorganic and organic fertilizer in Niger, and the impacts on crop yields. We

Design of an organic farming crop rotation experiment

open access: yes, 2000
A field experiment is conducted which focuses on crop rotations for cereal production in organic farming. The objective of the experiment is to explore the possibilities for both short-term and long-term increases in organic cereal production through ...

Challenges in modelling dissolved organic matter dynamics in agricultural soil using DAISY

open access: yes, 2008
Because dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays an important role is terrestrial C-,N-and P-balances and transport of these three components to aquatic environments, there is a need to include it in models.

Mechanosensitive Piezo1/Osteocalcin/Irisin Axis Protects Against Disuse‐Induced Muscle Atrophy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical unloading suppresses bone Piezo1 expression, which reduces circulating undercarboxylated osteocalcin (unOCN). unOCN reduction subsequently exacerbates IMM‐induced Fndc5/Irisin decrease and drives severe muscle atrophy. Bone Piezo1 activation or exogenous osteocalcin/Irisin ameliorate muscle atrophy, while muscle‐specific Gprc6a or Fndc5 ...
