Clinical significance of stratifying prostate cancer patients through specific circulating genes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We tested a specific panel of genes representative of luminal, neuroendocrine and stem‐like cells in the blood of prostate cancer patients, showing predictive value from diagnosis to late stages of disease. This approach allows monitoring of treatment responses and outcomes at specific time points in trajectories.

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Modified Self-Organized Task Allocation in a Group of Robots [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
This paper introduces a modified self-organized task allocation algorithm, where robots are assigned to pick up one of the two types of object. This paper also demonstrates both algorithms by showing the simulation results of the conventional self-organized task allocation algorithm and the simulation results of its modification.

Marginal loss and exclusion loss for partially supervised multi-organ segmentation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Annotating multiple organs in medical images is both costly and time-consuming; therefore, existing multi-organ datasets with labels are often low in sample size and mostly partially labeled, that is, a dataset has a few organs labeled but not all organs.

Germline variants in CDKN2A wild‐type melanoma prone families

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Among melanoma‐prone families, wild‐type for CDKN2A and CDK4, some have pathogenic variants in genes not usually linked to melanoma. Furthermore, rare XP‐related variants and variants in MC1R are enriched in such families. Germline pathogenic variants in CDKN2A are well established as an underlying cause of familial malignant melanoma. While pathogenic

Purification and characterization of a thermophilic NAD+‐dependent lactate dehydrogenase from Moorella thermoacetica

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The thermophilic acetogenic model organism Moorella thermoacetica can utilize lactate as substrate. The formation of lactate by reduction of pyruvate is energetically favorable, but the reverse reaction, the oxidation of lactate to pyruvate with NAD+ as electron acceptor is challenging.
