Process integration of organic Rankine cycle

Energy, 2009
An organic Rankine cycle (ORC) uses an organic fluid as a working medium within a Rankine cycle power plant. ORC offers advantages over conventional Rankine cycle with water as the working medium, as ORC generates shaft-work from low to medium temperature heat sources with higher thermodynamic efficiency.

Organic Rankine Cycle as Bottoming Cycle to a Combined Brayton and Clausius - Rankine Cycle

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
A preliminary evaluation has been made of a possibility of bottoming of a conventional Brayton cycle cooperating with the CHP power plant with the organic Rankine cycle installation. Such solution contributes to the possibility of annual operation of that power plant, except of operation only in periods when there is a demand for the heat.

Comparison of a Basic Organic Rankine Cycle and a Parallel Double-Evaporator Organic Rankine Cycle

Heat Transfer Engineering, 2016
ABSTRACTThe applications of zeotropic mixtures and multi-evaporator systems are two viable options to improve the performance of the organic Rankine cycle (ORC). This paper conducts the thermo-economic comparison of a basic ORC with R245fa/R600a and a parallel double-evaporator organic Rankine cycle (PDORC) with R245fa.

Buoyancy organic Rankine cycle

Renewable Energy, 2011
Abstract In the scope of renewable energy, we draw attention to a little known technique to harness solar and geothermal energy. The design here proposed and analyzed is a conceptual hybrid of several patents. By means of a modified organic Rankine cycle, energy is obtained utilizing buoyancy force of a working fluid.

Optimizing Energy Conversion Using Organic Rankine Cycles and Supercritical Rankine Cycles

ASME 2011 5th International Conference on Energy Sustainability, Parts A, B, and C, 2011
The optimization of energy conversion systems is of great significance in the utilization of low-grade heat. This paper presents an analysis of 6 working fluids in 12 thermodynamic cycles to optimize the energy conversion systems. The optimal exergy efficiency of the system is dependent on the type of the thermodynamic cycle, the choice of appropriate ...

Design and testing of the Organic Rankine Cycle

Energy, 2001
Abstract We propose a new type of environmentally friendly system called the “Organic Rankine Cycle” (ORC) in which low-grade heat sources are utilized. This system combines a circulated thermosyphon with a turbine system. The working fluid used in this study is an organic substance which has a low boiling point and a low latent heat for using low ...
