Complexity and biourbanism: thermodynamical architectural and urban models integrated in modern geographic mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The paper was presented on 5th April 2012 by Eleni Tracada in Theoretical Currents II conference in the University of Lincoln.Abstract Vital elements in urban fabric have been often suppressed for reasons of ‘style’. Recent theories, such as Biourbanism,

Flowing sand - a possible physical realization of Directed Percolation

open access: yes, 1999
A simple model for flowing sand on an inclined plane is introduced. The model is related to recent experiments by Douady and Daerr [Nature 399, 241 (1999)] and reproduces some of the experimentally observed features.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Transitions from the Quantum Hall State to the Anderson Insulator: Fa te of Delocalized States

open access: yes, 1999
Transitions between the quantum Hall state and the Anderson insulator are studied in a two dimensional tight binding model with a uniform magnetic field and a random potential.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Autonomous Quality Control of High Spatiotemporal Resolution Automatic Weather Station Precipitation Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing
How to prevent the influence of precipitation’s localized and sudden characteristics is the most formidable challenge in the quality control (QC) of precipitation observations.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

RACH Traffic Prediction in Massive Machine Type Communications

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Machine Learning in Communications and Networking
Traffic pattern prediction has emerged as a promising approach for efficiently managing and mitigating the impacts of event-driven bursty traffic in massive machine-type communication (mMTC) networks.

Critical Behavior of the Random Potts Chain

open access: yes, 1999
We study the critical behavior of the random q-state Potts quantum chain by density matrix renormalization techniques. Critical exponents are calculated by scaling analysis of finite lattice data of short chains ($L \leq 16$) averaging over all possible ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
