Premature delivery and organochlorine compounds: Polychlorinated biphenyls and some organochlorine insecticides

Environmental Research, 1982
Abstract Some organochlorine compounds (OCC), DDT and metabolites, γ-HCH, dieldrin, heptachlor epoxide and polychlorinated biphenyls were assessed in the serum of 17 women with premature delivery (PD) and 10 women with normal, third-trimester pregnancy.

Catalytic dechlorination of organochlorine compounds III. Lindane

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1977
We found that in-situ preparation of Ni2B with the addition of excess NaBHa was--6ff--ective in the extensive dechlorination of DDT (DENNIS-and COOPER, 1975), heptachlor and chlordane (DENNIS and COOPER, in press). Similar systems have been used to reductively dehalogenate aromatic systems (EGLI, 1968) and as a site specific method for deuteration ...

Bioaccumulation of organochlorine compounds in earthworms

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1992
Abstract Bioaccumulation of chlorophenolic wood preservatives 2,3,4,6-tetrachlorophenol (2346-TeCP) and pentachlorophenol (PeCP) and their metabolites in earthworms were studied in the laboratory, and by taking worm samples from the contaminated soil of a sawmill which was abandoned 28 yr ago.

Organochlorine Compounds and Xenoestrogens in Human Endometrium

1998
Numerous in vitro-studies have demonstrated weak estrogenic effects of a large number of environmental chemicals (Jobling et al., 1995; Soto et al., 1994; Colborn and Clement, 1992). A major limitation of in vitro-testing is that it does not account for pharmacokinetic properties of the test compounds. Many xenoestrogens contain hydroxy groups or ester

Organochlorine compounds and estrogen-related cancers in women

Cancer Causes and Control, 1995
The organochlorines, a diverse group of some 15,000 compounds, have been implicated increasingly as being harmful to humans. Some congeners of DDT and PCB elicit very weak estrogenic responses in animals, while the dioxin TCDD and related compounds have antiestrogenic properties.

Organochlorine compounds in mother and fetus during labor

Environmental Research, 1977
Abstract Some features of the storage of organochlorine compounds in mother and fetus as assessed during labor are reported in this paper. Organochlorine insecticides (DDT and metabolites, dieldrin, y-BHC, and heptachlor expoxide) and polychlorinated biphenyls were assessed in maternal adipose tissue, maternal blood, fetal blood, maternal uterine ...

Persistent organochlorine compounds in water and soil environments

Environmental Management and Health, 1996
Reviews compound physico‐chemical properties and water and soil properties influencing the transport and distribution of organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorophenols in a water and soil environment. As highly hydrophobic compounds of low water solubility, organochlorine pesticides and PCBs are rapidly and strongly ...

[Organochlorine compounds in human milk].

Zentralblatt fur Hygiene und Umweltmedizin = International journal of hygiene and environmental medicine, 1991
The impact of life style characteristics and chemical exposure conditions of about 80 nursing women on the contents of Organochlorine compounds (OCC) in their breast milk is analyzed and described by a robust statistical procedure. Information on independent variables such as age, diet, smoking, occupation and chemical exposures is obtained by a ...

Organochlorine Compounds in Norwegian Human Fat and Milk

Acta Pharmacologica et Toxicologica, 1978
Abstract Analyses were carried out in 1975/76 of 58 samples of human, perirenal fatty tissue and 45 samples of human milk with regard to persistent organochlorine compounds. A corresponding investigation was carried out in 1969/70. A comparison of the results suggests that a decrease in the content of DDT and its metabolites occurs.

ORGANOCHLORINE COMPOUNDS IN PINE NEEDLES: METHODS AND TRENDS

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1994
Abstract During April 1989, needles from Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) trees were collected from a network of stations in West Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Samples from selected stations were analyzed for hexachlorobenzene (HCB), pen-tachlorophenol (PCP), hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (α-HCH and γ-HCH [lindane]), DDT, and DDE ...
