Responsive aggregation-induced emissive supramolecular gels based on bis-cyanostilbene derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In aromatic solvents, V-shaped bis-cyanostilbene derivative 1 forms stable and emissive gels which are capable of responding to light and, selectively, to TFA via a gel-to-sol ...

Morphological and Computational Analysis of Additively Manufacturable Polyimide Precursors: Implications for Rationally Designing New Polyimide Structures

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and DFT calculations establish how polyimide precursor choice governs additively manufactured morphology. PMDA/ODA and PMDA/DDS printed via a polysalt vat photopolymerization route are compared by SEM, SAXS/WAXS, and TGA. PDMA/DDS displays reduced π‐stacking and lower thermal stability compared to PMDA/ODA.

Hydrogels Incorporating Donor–Acceptor Stenhouse Adducts as a Platform for Photoinduced, On‐Off Switchable Release of Small Molecule Cargos

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Donor–acceptor Stenhouse aDdducts (DASAs) are known for their photoinduced tautomerization, which, when conjugated to block copolymers, can self‐assemble into tuneable polymersomes. These DASA‐polymersomes are being investigated for light‐controlled cargo release in biomedical applications.

Self‐Assembled Nanostructured Microgels with Reconfigurable Morphologies

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This work presents bent‐core amphiphiles that self‐assemble into fibrillar, tubular, and helical nanofiber‐like nanostructures, forming organogels that can be emulsified into water as nanostructured microgels. These droplets preserve internal architectures and, when combined with fluorocarbon oils, yield multicompartment emulsions with dynamically ...

Applying low-molecular weight supramolecular gelators in an environmental setting – self-assembled gels as smart materials for pollutant removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This review explores supramolecular gels as materials for environmental remediation. These soft materials are formed by self-assembling low-molecular-weight building blocks, which can be programmed with molecular-scale information by simple organic ...

Homogeneous Freestanding Luminescent Perovskite Organogel with Superior Water Stability

open access: yesAdvances in Materials, 2019
Metal‐halide perovskites have become appealing materials for optoelectronic devices. While the fast advancing stretchable/wearable devices require stability, flexibility and scalability, current perovskites suffer from ambient‐environmental instability ...

Emerging Triboelectric Nanogenerators for In‐Body Implantation

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
This review explores functional implantable triboelectric nanogenerators in biomedical applications, discussing their mechanisms, electricity generation, and design approaches. To solve postimplantation challenges, four types of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are introduced: stretchable, bioadhesive, on‐demand biodegradable, and multiresponsive ...

Synthesis of photoresponsive cholesterol-based azobenzene organogels: dependence on different spacer lengths

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2015
A series of azobenzene–cholesterol organogel compounds (M0–M12) with different spacers were designed and synthesized. The molecular structures were confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy.
