Mean Serum Creatine Kinase among Organophosphate Poisoning Cases in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association, 2022
Introduction: Major cases of poisoning are associated with organophosphates. Cholinergic effects and an intermediate phase seen with organophosphate poisoning may implicate myopathy. Creatine kinase is a marker of muscle tissue damage.

Organophosphate Poisoning Due to a Wheat Bagel

open access: yes, 2009
Objective Organophosphate compounds are possibly the most widely-used insecticides worldwide. Organophosphate compounds cause poisoning, inhibiting acetylcholinesterase at the cholinergic synapses.

Status epilepticus: Updates on mechanisms and treatments

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Status epilepticus (SE) consists of prolonged, self‐sustaining seizures and is a common neurological emergency that causes respiratory compromise and neuronal injury. Without prompt treatment, the seizures can become resistant to benzodiazepines, leading to the progressive evolution of established, refractory, and super‐refractory SE.

Cytotoxicity of 19 Pesticides in Rainbow Trout Gill, Liver, and Intestinal Cell Lines

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, EarlyView.
Abstract The rainbow trout gill cell line (RTgill‐W1), via test guideline 249 of the Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development, has been established as a promising New Approach Methodology, although to advance confidence in the method more case studies are needed that: 1) expand our understanding of applicability domains (chemicals with ...

Partial protection from organophosphate-induced cholinesterase inhibition by metyrapone treatment

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Organophosphates are cholinesterase (ChE) inhibitors with worldwide use as insecticides. Stress response, evidenced by a dramatic and relatively long-lasting (several hours) rise in the plasma glucocorticoid concentration is an integral ...

Food Contamination and Safety in Nigeria: A Systematic Synthesis of Heavy Metals, Microbial Pathogens, and Health Risk Metrics

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
This is an infographic driver of food contaminants and health effects. ABSTRACT Food safety remains a critical challenge in Nigeria due to rapid urbanization and weak regulatory enforcement. This systematic review synthesizes empirical evidence from 2015 to 2025 to characterize food contaminant profiles and associated human health risks in Nigeria ...

Experimental hut evaluation of bednets treated with an organophosphate (chlorpyrifos-methyl) or a pyrethroid (lambdacyhalothrin) alone and in combination against insecticide-resistant Anopheles gambiae and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
BACKGROUND: Pyrethroid resistant mosquitoes are becoming increasingly common in parts of Africa. It is important to identify alternative insecticides which, if necessary, could be used to replace or supplement the pyrethroids for use on treated nets ...
