Research Engagement Changes Attitudes and Behaviours towards Agrichemical Safety in Australian Farmers

open access: yesSafety, 2020
There is limited research that evaluates the effect of farmer involvement in agrichemical exposure surveillance on their attitudes and behaviour towards pesticide handling and use of personal protective equipment. This limited follow-up study aimed to (i)

Effects of bioinsecticide exposure route on aphids and their natural enemies in oilseed rape

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Fatty acids, silicone polymers and surfactants reduced aphid numbers but caused natural enemy mortality under direct exposure, while minimal residual activity suggests potential for targeted, compatible use in integrated pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Myzus persicae Sulzer and Brevicoryne brassicae L.

Comparative analysis of organophosphorus versus carbamate pesticide poisoning: a case study

open access: yesArhiv za Higijenu Rada i Toksikologiju
Organophosphorus poisoning is a critical condition that can cause central nervous system depression, respiratory failure, and death early on. As its clinical manifestations closely resemble those of carbamate pesticide poisoning, the aim of this case ...

Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs induce mortality in the South African mealybug Delottococcus aberiae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs effectively silence essential genes in the invasive citrus pest Delottococcus aberiae, leading to significant mortality through both microinjection and oral delivery. These results provide proof of concept for RNA interference‐based biopesticides as selective and sustainable tools for citrus integrated pest management.

Susceptibility of Phthorimaea absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) to novel and established insecticides in Brazil: resistance survey, baseline, and implications for management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Baseline susceptibility of Phthorimaea absoluta to novel insecticides isocycloseram and tolfenpyrad was established in Brazil. Diagnostic doses were proposed for early resistance detection. Early tolfenpyrad tolerance and abamectin‐driven cross‐tolerance to isocycloseram via oxidases highlight cross‐resistance risks, emphasizing the need for routine ...

Gulf War Syndrome: A role for organophosphate induced plasticity of locus coeruleus neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Gulf War syndrome is a chronic multi-symptom illness that has affected about a quarter of the deployed veterans of the 1991 Gulf War. Exposure to prolonged low-level organophosphate insecticides and other toxic chemicals is now thought to be responsible.
