PON1 status does not influence cholinesterase activity in Egyptian agricultural workers exposed to chlorpyrifos. [PDF]
Animal studies have shown that paraoxonase 1 (PON1) genotype can influence susceptibility to the organophosphorus pesticide chlorpyrifos (CPF). However, Monte Carlo analysis suggests that PON1 genotype may not affect CPF-related toxicity at low exposure ...

Fusion proteins composed of an organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH) and pHluorin, a pH-sensitive green fluorescent protein variant, were constructed as whole-cell biosensors to measure organophosphorus pesticides. pHluorin was used to detect the pH changes because of the hydrolase of paraoxon by OPH.

Expression of organophosphorus-degradation gene(opd) in aggregating and non-aggregating filamentous nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria [PDF]
Genetic engineering in filamentous N2-fixing cyanobacteria usually involves Anabaena sp.PCC 7120 and several other non-aggregating species.Mass culture and harvest of such species are more energy consuming relative to aggregating species. To establish a ...

A self-compartmentalizing hexamer serine protease from Pyrococcus Horikoshii: Substrate selection achieved through multimerization [PDF]
Oligopeptidases impose a size limitation on their substrates, the mechanism of which has long been in debate. Here we present the structure of a hexameric serine protease, an oligopeptidase from Pyrococcus horikoshii (PhAAP), revealing a complex, self ...

A Thermostable Bacterial Metallohydrolase that Degrades Organophosphate Plasticizers. [PDF]
This bacterial enzyme, cyclase‐phosphotriesterase (C‐PTE) from Ruegeria pomeroyi DSS‐3, shows significant potential for breaking down organophosphate pollutants. Beyond its capability to hydrolyze specific plasticizers such as triphenyl phosphate and tris(2‐chloropropyl) phosphate, C‐PTE's crystal structure reveals a binuclear zinc active site, and it ...
