Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Can Markets Save Lives? An Experimental Investigation of a Market for Organ Donations [PDF]
Many people die while waiting for organ transplants even though the number of usable organs is far larger than the number needed for transplant. Governments have devised many policies aimed at increasing available transplant organs with variable success.

By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

Altruism, Markets, and Organ Procurement [PDF]
For decades, the dominant view among biomedical ethicists, transplantation professionals, and the public at large has been that altruism, not financial considerations, should motivate organ donors. Proposals to compensate sources of transplantable organs

Hydrogen sulfide repairs testicular damage induced by heat stress in rats
Heat stress can cause testicular damage and affect fertility. We investigated the potential protective role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) against heat stress‐induced testicular injury and observed that H2S donor NaHS can effectively restore testicular damage in rats by inhibiting inflammation and oxidative stress. Our results suggest that H2S might be used
