We propose a new method of detecting image orientations by using mathematical morphology, a type of nonlinear processing. In the new method, an opening filter with a one-dimensional structure along each orientation axis detects image orientations after detection of oriented edges in the images.

Kansei-Oriented Image Retrieval
2001In the design of multimedia database system, one of the important issues is how to deal with kansei of human beings. A kansei-oriented image retrieval has been proposed in this paper. Human kansei includes two aspects: common kansei and individual kansei. Our approach also consists of common kansei retrieval and individual kansei retrieval.

Context-Oriented Image Retrieval
2005In order to help address problems of information overload in digital imagery task domains, we have developed an interactive approach to the capture and reuse of image context information. Our framework models different aspects of the relationship between images and the domain tasks that they support by monitoring the interactive manipulation and ...

Document image orientation based on both text and image
SPIE Proceedings, 2012This paper investigated the problem of orientation detection for document images with Chinese characters. These images may be in four orientations: right side up, up-side down, 90° and 270° rotated counterclockwise. First, we presented the structure of text-recognition-based orientation detection algorithm.

Research-oriented image registry for multimodal image integration
Medical Informatics, 1998To provide multimodal biomedical images automatically, we constructed the research-oriented image registry, Data Delivery System (DDS). DDS was constructed on the campus local area network. Machines which generate images (imagers: DSA, ultrasound, PET, MRI, SPECT and CT) were connected to the campus LAN. Once a patient is registered, all his images are

Social-oriented visual image search
Computer Vision and Image Understanding, 2014Many research have been focusing on how to match the textual query with visual images and their surrounding texts or tags for Web image search. The returned results are often unsatisfactory due to their deviation from user intentions, particularly for queries with heterogeneous concepts (such as ''apple'', ''jaguar'') or general (non-specific) concepts

Computer recognition of chest image orientation
Proceedings. 11th IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (Cat. No.98CB36237), 2002A review console displaying digital radiographs should automatically display chest images in their proper orientation to save radiologists' time. To accomplish this feat, the authors have developed a simple, rapid algorithm that can be implemented in hardware. First, the view of the radiograph is determined.

Orientation imaging of microstructures
Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1994The complexity of microstructures characteristic of polycrystalline materials presents the serious investigator with many challenges. The materials engineer hopes to associate the important technological properties of these materials with specific (quantifiable) attributes of the microstructure; however, microscopy presents an overwhelming myriad of ...

Orientation adapted subband image compression
Proceedings of International Conference on Image Processing, 2002A subband coding system which dynamically adapts to the local orientation of image features is investigated. In particular, the re-orientation scheme proposed by Taubman and Zakhor (1994) is used in conjunction with a separable octave-band subband decomposition.
