Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Genetic dissection of human ABCE1 in yeast reveals separable requirements for ribosome recycling and suppression of aberrant reinitiation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human ABCE1 cannot functionally replace its yeast ortholog. Yeast–human chimera analysis identified NBD1 as a major interspecies barrier. Genetic screening yielded hABCE1 revertants that rescue yeast viability but fail to suppress aberrant translation reinitiation in the 3′ UTR.

ALO4: Angle Localization and Orientation System with Four Receivers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2014
This paper presents a 2D indoor localization and orientation system based on a TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) technique. It uses an array of receivers (four low-cost ultrasonic resonant devices in a square distribution) to implement low-computational-effort DOA (Direction of Arrival) algorithms, based on assumed plane-wave reception. The system only

Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...

Effects of floral symmetry and orientation on the consistency of pollinator’s entry angle

open access: yesThe Science of Nature, 2022
Abstract Since the publication of Sprengel’s (1793) observations, it has been considered that flowers with zygomorphic (or bilaterally symmetrical) corollas evolved to restrict the movement of pollinators into the flower by limiting the pollinator’s direction of approach.

Gravity‐Dependent Modulation of Downbeat Nystagmus: Insights From Velocity‐Storage Dysfunction

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Downbeat nystagmus varies with head position, a phenomenon termed gravity‐dependent modulation. We aimed to clarify its mechanism using a velocity‐storage model. Methods In 10 patients with downbeat nystagmus due to cerebellar disorders, we recorded eye movements at different pitch‐ and roll‐axis head positions.

White Matter and Perivascular Imaging Changes in Alzheimer's Disease and Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Peak‐width of skeletonized mean diffusivity (PSMD) and diffusion tensor imaging–analysis along the perivascular space (DTI‐ALPS), reflecting white matter integrity and glymphatic function, are altered in Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Stage‐Specific Patterns of Imaging and Non‐Motor Biomarkers in Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Advancements in disease‐modifying therapies for spinocerebellar ataxia Type 3 (SCA3) underscore the need for robust biomarkers to monitor disease progression and evaluate treatment efficacy. Although motor phenotypes have been well characterized, less is known about non‐motor and imaging‐based features across different disease stages.
