Application-Oriented Estimator Selection
IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2015Designing the optimal experiment for the recovery of an unknown system with respect to the end performance metric of interest is a recently established practice in the system identification literature. This practice leads to superior end performance to designing the experiment with respect to some generic metric quantifying the distance of the ...

SCADA-Oriented State Estimation
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1997The paper addresses state estimation in electric power system as a part of the SCADA function. This change requires improvements of state estimator with regard to speed, robustness and handling. Investigations of time needed for data supply/desupply and algorithmic calculations are made and possibilities for a speeding up are discussed.

Autocorrelation fitting for texture orientation estimation
Proceedings 2003 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.03CH37429), 2004The problem of short-term texture orientation is dealt with in this paper through autocorrelation fitting. Actually, the computation of the estimated autocorrelation sequence from a textured oriented image brings about the apparition of an oriented pattern.

Estimating orientation with gyroscopes and accelerometers
Technology and Health Care, 1999Many systems for recording human movement need some reference from beacons near the subject, such as video cameras. Our goal is to measure human kinematics with sensors that are placed on the segments of interest. This way, experiments in which human movement is recorded are not restricted to a lab.

Orientation estimation of 3D surface Patches
Computer Vision, Graphics, and Image Processing, 1990Abstract Orientation estimation of a surface patch is an essential step in an automatic inspection job or a 3D template matching scheme for object recognition. Two main problems of the estimation are non-uniform surface sampling and self-occlusion. To solve these problems, we propose to use a 3D spherical window to extract the correct patch and to ...

Pedestrian Orientation Estimation
2014This paper addresses the task of estimating the orientation of pedestrians from monocular images provided by an automotive camera. From an initial detection of a pedestrian, we analyze the area within their bounding box and give an estimation of the orientation.

Estimation of seafloor electromagnetic receiver orientation
GEOPHYSICS, 2012If the orientation of a seafloor electromagnetic (EM) instrument is unknown, it has to be estimated afterwards, relatively early in the processing. Here we present a method to estimate the horizontal and vertical orientation of seafloor electromagnetic receivers.

Orientation Estimation Network
2017We propose the Orientation Estimation Network (OEN) to predict the dominant orientation of the outdoor images and rotate the images to a canonical orientation which is visually comfortable. The OEN outputs the sine and cosine of the angle which are continuous in contrast to the angle.

Orientation-Aware Regression for Oriented Bounding Box Estimation
2018 15th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Video and Signal Based Surveillance (AVSS), 2018Oriented bounding box estimation is an essential element for object detection since objects in real images consist of multiple orientations. State-of-the-art bounding box regression utilize linear layers and ReLU activations with an oriented feature as input, however these methods do not directly use the feature orientation.
