Tropical floodplain agroforestry systems in mid-Orinoco River basin, Venezuela

Agroforestry Systems, 1994
Agricultural studies in seasonally flooded areas in the tropics have been limited. Orinoco alluvial soils are more fertile than adjacent non-flooded soils, and have been considered as potential areas for further agricultural development. Traditional agroforestry practices offer some possibilities to overcome the most limiting factors of floodplain ...

A new species of Camelobaetidius Demoulin, 1966 (Ephemeroptera: Baetidae), from the Colombian Orinoco River basin

Zootaxa, 2019
Three species of Camelobaetidius Demoulin, 1966 have been reported from Colombia until now, based on nymphs. We describe a fourth species based on nymphs from the Colombian Orinoco river basin. The new species can be recognized by: 1) labrum narrowly rounded anteriorly; 2) segment II of labial palp with a short rounded distomedial projection; 3 ...

Accounting for ecosystem assets using remote sensing in the Colombian Orinoco River Basin lowlands

Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, 2016
In many parts of the world, ecosystems change compromises the supply of ecosystem services (ES). Better ecosystem management requires detailed and structured information. Ecosystem accounting has been developed as an information system for ecosystems, using concepts and valuation approaches that are aligned with the System of National Accounts (SNA ...

River Chemistry, Geology, Geomorphology, and Soils in the Amazon and Orinoco Basins

1985
In the Amazon and Orinoco basins, the chemistry of rivers can be related to the geology of their catchments when geomorphic factors are taken into consideration. To a first order, erosion processes are seen to occupy a continuum between weathering-limited (steep slopes, thin soils) and transport-limited (slight slopes, thick soils).

Unruliness at the Margins: Environment and Politics in the Lower Orinoco River Basin, 1600s - 1700s

2019
This dissertation is a political, social, and environmental history of the easternmost portion of the Orinoco River Basin (present-day Venezuela and Guyana), which I call the lowerOrinoco, in the 1600s and 1700s. It integrates and analyzes Spanish efforts to colonize and exploit the region, the dynamism of the region’s constituent environments, and the

On the nature and attribution of severe droughts in the Amazon and Orinoco River basins in 2023 and 2024

As anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gasses continue to increase, in 2024 we have experienced the hottest year on observational record globally, while the last ten years are the warmest ten years. Accelerating global climate change is intensifying the water cycle, leading to more frequent and/or severe droughts and floods as well as rapid ...
