First report of Ornithodoros peropteryx in Brazil, and the occurrence of Ornithodoros cavernicolous in the western Brazilian Amazon [PDF]
More than half of the Brazilian soft ticks (Argasidae) are represented by species associated with bats. Based on a morphological and molecular approach of free-living ticks collected inside two unexplored caves in Rondônia state, western Brazilian Amazon, we report the occurrence of Ornithodoros peropteryx for the first time in Brazil.

Ornithodoros moubata: Breeding in vitro
Experimental Parasitology, 1977Abstract In vitro breeding of Ornithodoros moubata (Murray) was achieved by feeding the ticks on defibrinated porcine and bovine blood through bat's wing membrane. On either type of blood, the life cycle was completed and the ticks reached equal weights and consumed equal meals.

Occurrence of a Species of Ornithodoros in Britain [PDF]
WHILE visiting Puffin Island, at the north-east end of the Menai Straits (North Wales) on May 16, 1954, about a dozen specimens of an argasid tick consisting of late nymphal stages and adults of both sexes were collected from under a stone in a dry part of the cliff.

Ultrastructure of salivary glands ofOrnithodoros (Ornithodoros) moubata(Ixodoidea: Argasidae)
Journal of Morphology, 1985AbstractThe paired salivary glands of unfed adultOrnithodoros (Ornithodoros) moubataare composed of type I (agranular) and type II (granular) alveoli. Type I alveoli consis of one large central cell surrounded by peripheral cells having the morphology of fluid‐transporting epithelia.

Bioassays performed on Ornithodoros (Ornithodoros) savignyi (Audouin) demonstrated the presence of a female sex pheromone. Unfed adults and fed adults, after various postfeeding periods, were cross-tested. Two independent criteria were used: the percentage of positive male responses and the time elapsed before these responses.

Piroplasmal sporozoites in the Argasid Ornithodoros erraticus (Lucas) [PDF]
The infective forms of Nuttallia meri, a small-mammal piroplasm, first appear as spindle-shaped sporozoites in and around the salivary glands of Ornithodoros erraticus (small race) 30 days after the ticks had fed on infected blood. O. erraticus is the only soft tick so far proved to transmit a piroplasm.
