Abstract This paper reports on the effect of solvent viscosity on the emission spectra of a series of local anesthetic analogues containing the ortho -aminobenzoate (anthranilate) chromophore. The emission spectra of these compounds in glycerol undergo a blue shift with decreasing temperature in accordance with solvent relaxation.
