Cache valley virus in a patient diagnosed with aseptic meningitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cache Valley virus was initially isolated from mosquitoes and had been linked to central nervous system-associated diseases. A case of Cache Valley virus infection is described.

Genetic elements regulating packaging of the Bunyamwera orthobunyavirus genome

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2006
The genome of Bunyamwera virus (BUN; family Bunyaviridae, genus Orthobunyavirus) comprises three segments of negative-sense, single-stranded RNA. The RNA segments are encapsidated by the viral nucleocapsid (N) protein and form panhandle-like structures through interaction of complementary sequences at their 5′ and 3′ termini.

Structure, function, and evolution of the Orthobunyavirus membrane fusion glycoprotein

open access: yesCell Reports, 2023
La Crosse virus, responsible for pediatric encephalitis in the United States, and Schmallenberg virus, a highly teratogenic veterinary virus in Europe, belong to the large Orthobunyavirus genus of zoonotic arthropod-borne pathogens distributed worldwide.

Two Birds With One Stone: RNA Virus Strategies to Manipulate G3BP1 and Other Stress Granule Components

open access: yesWIREs RNA, Volume 16, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
Stress granules emerging during viral infection can play both pro‐ and antiviral roles. RNA viruses use various strategies to antagonize their formation, including the degradation, inhibition, or sequestration of G3BP1, a key stress granule protein. However, biochemical and structural insights into these mechanisms have been reported for only a handful

Current and Future Probability of Occurrence of the Floodwater Mosquito Aedes vexans (Meigen, 1830) in the Netherlands

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 149, Issue 2, Page 187-199, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Aedes vexans (Meigen, 1830) is a floodwater mosquito species that may cause significant nuisance and can serve as a vector for multiple arboviruses. Its distribution is expected to shift in the future as a result of changes in climate and land use. Understanding these shifts is important for estimating future disease risk.

Seroprevalence and Risk Factors of Inkoo Virus in Northern Sweden [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The mosquito-borne Inkoo virus (INKV) is a member of the California serogroup in the family Bunyaviridae, genus Orthobunyavirus. These viruses are associated with fever and encephalitis, although INKV infections are not usually reported and the incidence

[ZOOPATHOGENIC ORTHOBUNIAVIRUSES (ORTHOBUNYAVIRUS, BUNYAVIRIDAE)].

open access: yesVoprosy virusologii, 2016
This work deals with the systematics and taxonomy of orthobunyaviruses, little-studied dangerous and new iruses Akabane, Aino, Schmallenberg, Cache Valley diseases, Oropouche fever. The significance of the reassortment mechanism of their origin and diversification is discussed.

Immunocompetent hamsters as a model for orthobunyavirus-induced neuroinvasion and neuropathology

open access: yesPLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2023
Background Bunyavirus infections, including those caused by Bunyamwera serogroup orthobunyaviruses, represent a significant and yet likely still vastly underappreciated cause of mild to moderate human febrile infections. In severe cases, these infections can also cause neurological disease, particularly meningitis and encephalitis, and infection can ...
