The N-terminal domain of the arenavirus L protein is an RNA endonuclease essential in mRNA transcription.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
Arenaviridae synthesize viral mRNAs using short capped primers presumably acquired from cellular transcripts by a 'cap-snatching' mechanism. Here, we report the crystal structure and functional characterization of the N-terminal 196 residues (NL1) of the

Silver Nanoparticle‐Mediated Antiviral Efficacy against Enveloped Viruses: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2025.
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibit broad‐spectrum antiviral activity by targeting key viral structures and processes. They disrupt viral envelopes, compromising integrity, and bind to nucleocapsids, impairing viral replication. AgNPs also inhibit glycoprotein interactions, preventing viral attachment and entry into host cells.

Development of a novel equine influenza virus live-attenuated vaccine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
H3N8 equine influenza virus (EIV) is an important and significant respiratory pathogen of horses. EIV is enzootic in Europe and North America, mainly due to the suboptimal efficacy of current vaccines. We describe, for the first time, the generation of a

Monitoring Macrophage Polarization in Infectious Disease, Lesson From SARS‐CoV‐2 Infection

open access: yesReviews in Medical Virology, Volume 35, Issue 3, May 2025.
ABSTRACT The concept of macrophage polarization has been largely used in human diseases to define a typology of activation of myeloid cells reminiscent of lymphocyte functional subsets. In COVID‐19, several studies have investigated myeloid compartment dysregulation and macrophage polarization as an indicator of disease prognosis and monitoring.

Pseudotypes: your flexible friends [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pseudotype viruses: applications and troubleshooting' (EuroSciCon 2013), a 1-day conference held at Cineworld: The O2 (London, UK) on 2 October 2013, focused on the technique of pseudotyping enveloped viruses (for a review of the technique, see [1]). The

Molecular Evolution of Influenza A Viruses From Mauritius, 2017–2019

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 19, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Despite being a vaccine preventable disease, influenza remains a burden in African countries. In Mauritius, influenza virus activity is year‐round but evidence‐based data to guide vaccination and pandemic preparedness strategies are lacking.

Unusual Influenza A Viruses in Bats

open access: yesViruses, 2014
Influenza A viruses infect a remarkably diverse number of hosts. Two completely new influenza A virus subtypes were recently discovered in bats, dramatically expanding the host range of the virus.

Influenza as a public health problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017

Detection of a Reassortant Swine‐ and Human‐Origin H3N2 Influenza A Virus in Farmed Mink in British Columbia, Canada

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 72, Issue 3, Page 293-300, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction In December 2021, influenza A viruses (IAV) were detected in a population of farmed mink in British Columbia, Canada. Circulation of IAVs in farmed mink populations has raised public health concerns due to similarities between mustelid and human respiratory physiology, potentially facilitating spillover of zoonotic influenzas from
