Rice blast pathogen effector AvrPib compromises disease resistance by targeting Raf‐like protein kinase OsMAPKKK72 to inhibit MAPK signaling

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The rice Raf‐like protein kinase OsMAPKKK72 acts as a scaffold to modulate MAPK signaling. To invade rice plants, the blast fungus delivers the effector AvrPib to target OsMAPKKK72, suppressing MAPK activation and rice blast resistance. ABSTRACT Phytopathogens, such as the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, suppress plant immunity for reproduction ...

Dormancy and enzymatic activity of rice cultivars seeds stored in different environments

open access: yesJournal of Seed Science
The objective of this study was to assess the dormancy and the enzymatic activity of seeds of rice cultivars during storage in different environments. After harvesting, the seeds of two rice cultivars (BRS Ourominas and BRSMG Caravera) were dried in the ...

The economic importance and control of vertebrate pests of graminaceous crops with particular reference to rice (Oryza sativa) in Nigeria--a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Graminaceous crops, especially rice (Orzya sativa), have within the last years in Nigeria, surged to be of utmost economic importance, not in improving the economy but in depleting the country of fast foreign exchange. Attempts at improving and massively

Structural variation drives rhizome innovation and adaptive divergence in sister Medicago species

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Chromosome‐scale genome analysis, population resequencing, stress‐responsive transcriptomes and functional assays showed that coding and regulatory structural variants, especially gene duplications and noncoding presence‐absence variants, underlie rhizome formation in alpine Medicago archiducis‐nicolai and contrasting xeric adaptation in its non ...

Near‐complete genome assembly of a transformation‐efficient elite inbred line LH244 and its comparison with B73

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Analysis of a near‐complete assembly of the genome of the highly transformable maize inbred line LH244 revealed its high genetic similarity to B73 and will serve as a much‐needed resource for functional genomics and genome editing of maize. ABSTRACT The highly transformable maize inbred line LH244 represents an attractive model for gene discovery and ...

Interspecies rice versus Arabidopsis thaliana protein–protein interactome profiling by touch‐down overlapping PCR coupled with HiFi long‐read sequencing

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Summary Touch‐down overlapping PCR coupled with HiFi long‐read sequencing, a high‐throughput method for large‐scale profiling of protein‐protein interactions based on stitch‐PCR identified 7,726 high‐confidence interactions between rice and Arabidopsis proteins by integrating a library‐vs‐library yeast two‐hybrid strategy with optimized PCR and long ...

Transposable element‐mediated DNA methylation of the NAC20 and NAC26 promoters led to a maternal effect on grain filling

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The rice transcription factor genes NAC20 and NAC26 regulate grain filling and show allele‐specific maternal expression due to transposable element insertions and paternal hypermethylation in their 5' upstream regions. Geographical analyses showed that japonica varieties that originated at high latitudes carried these transposable elements.
