Sawtoothed grain beetle (oryzaephilus surinamensis linnaeus) and human ecology

The demography of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera: Silvanidae) on kibbled wheat

Journal of Stored Products Research, 1994
Abstract Finite rates of population increase (λ) of a pesticide susceptible strain of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) living in kibbled wheat were determined at 20, 22.5, 25, 30, 32.5 and 35°C at 30, 50 and 70% relative humidity (r.h.) using survivorship and fertility schedules, i.e.

Malathion for the control of Oryzaephilus surinamensis in stored oats

Journal of Stored Products Research, 1974
Abstract Malathion was applied at an overall dosage of 8 or 12 ppm to layers of stored oats transferred with an auger to small bins of 12·3 metric tons capacity. The oats were heating (35–40°C) and were heavily infested (231 insects/kg) with Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.). Malathion controlled the infestation at 12 ppm but not at 8 ppm. A bin of 10·8

Nutritional relationships in larvae of Oryzaephilus surinamensis

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1967
Abstract The saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), was reared to the adult stage on synthetic diets at 32±2°C and 75 per cent r.h. In the absence of RNA, dietary aspartic acid increased survival and rate of development of this insect.

Two mutations in Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera: Silvanidae)

Journal of Stored Products Research, 1986
Abstract Clear eye ( c ) and dark body colour ( d ) mutations in Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) are described. The c mutation is phenotypically identical to “pearl” (Blackman, 1966), lacking pigment in the compound eyes and also in the larval ocelli and Malpighian tubules. These structures are deeply pigmented in the wild type.

Genetic variability in esterases and the insecticide resistance in brazilian strains ofOryzaephilus mercatorandOryzaephilus surinamensis(Coleoptera: Silvanidae)

Bulletin of Entomological Research, 2010
AbstractOryzaephilus mercatorandO. surinamensisare stored grains and processed food pests, the latter being responsible for major economical losses. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was used to analyse esterase patterns during insect development. Seven esterases, three cholinesterases, two carboxylesterases and two acetylesterases, were identified ...

Dietary alanine and proline requirements of the beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1968
Abstract The saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), was reared to the adult stage on chemically defined diets at 32± 2°C and 75 ± 5 per cent r.h. Dietary alanine and dietary proline were dispensable for survival and rate of development of this insect, when arginine was included at optimal concentration (9·0 mg/g) in the diet.

Lysine requirements of larvae of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera, Silvanidae)

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1961
Abstract Larvae of the saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), survived in greater numbers and developed quicker as the concentration of l-lysine in the diet increased from 0 to 1·37 per cent. At higher concentrations the number surviving and the rate of growth decreased.

Variation in life history parameters of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L). (Coleoptera: Silvanidae)

Journal of Stored Products Research, 1989
Abstract Rates of survival and development of immature stages, and survival and fertility of adults of four field populations and two laboratory strains of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) were compared. Population parameters of the field populations were generally similar, although one had a lower fertility rate.
