SLEEP MICROSTRUCTURE IN PATIENTS WITH GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX AND OSAS

open access: yes, 2010
Introduction: Recent observations underline the importance of nocturnal gastroesofageal reflux (GER) and its possible correlations with obstructive sleep apnea sindrome (OSAS). However, polysomnographic (PSG) data on the interactions between

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS): Who Are Our Patients?

open access: yes, 2018
The Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is characterized by interruption or reduction of airfl ow during sleep despite respiratory effort, causing awakenings, oxyhemoglobin desaturation and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Role of sleep apnea‐specific hypoxic burden and sleep breathing impairment index in assessing cognitive impairment in obstructive sleep apnea adults

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of sleep apnea‐specific hypoxic burden (SASHB) and sleep disordered breathing index (SBII) in assessing cognitive dysfunction in adults with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and to compare them with the apnea‐hypopnea index (AHI).

CPAP increases bronchial reactivity in OSAS patients

open access: yes, 2008
Continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) is a well known and safe method of treatment patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). The effects of CPAP administration on the upper respiratory tract are known. However its effects on the lower

Age‐related population level decoupling of obstructive sleep apnea severity from body mass index: Insights from over 40,000 patients across the adult lifespan

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Study Objectives Obesity is a major determinant of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) severity, but its influence may vary across adulthood. We examined age‐related patterns of body mass index (BMI), apnea–hypopnea index (AHI), and hypoxemic burden, and assessed whether the association between BMI and OSA severity attenuates with age.

A New Perspective on Osas Cases With the Baveno Classification

open access: yes
Pazarli, Ahmet Cemal/0000-0002-7094-837X; Yakar, Halil Ibrahim/0000-0002-0973-9173Objective/Background: Since the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), which is used in the diagnosis and grading of OSAS, does not adequately reflect the clinical perspective of the ...

Obstructive sleep apnea and major depressive disorder: Shared transcriptional signatures and candidate pathways identified via bioinformatics analysis

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) frequently co‐occurs with major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the underlying biological mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to identify OSA‐related transcriptional signatures associated with depressive status using integrated bioinformatics and machine learning.

Nocturnal awakening secondary to pain in sleep‐related painful erection: A case report and literature review

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract A 41‐year‐old male patient presented with a 13‐year history of recurrent nocturnal penile pain associated with erections during sleep. Over the course of his illness, the patient attended outpatient clinics on 298 occasions and was hospitalized three times. The primary symptom reported was erectile pain occurring during sleep.

Salivary biomarkers in sleep‐related disorders

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract The exploration of salivary biomarkers has emerged as a promising avenue in the diagnosis and management of sleep‐related disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), insomnia, and sleep deprivation. Saliva is a noninvasive biofluid that contains a wealth of biological markers, reflecting both local and systemic physiological changes ...
