Flapping Propulsion of Oscillating Flat Plates [PDF]
The propulsive characteristics of oscillating flat plates are investigated using a discrete vortex method. The plates and their wakes are represented by discrete point vortices. To analyze the closely coupled aerodynamic interference between the plates, a vortex core model and a vortex core addition scheme are combined.

Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

Drop motion induced by vertical vibrations
We have studied the motion of liquid drops on an inclined plate subject to vertical vibrations. The liquids comprised distilled water and different aqueous solutions of glycerol, ethanol and isopropanol spanning the range 1–39 mm ^2 s ^−1 in kinematic ...

A semi-analytical solution for viscothermal wave propagation in narrow gaps with arbitrary boundary conditions. [PDF]
Previous research has shown that viscothermal wave propagation in narrow gaps can efficiently be described by means of the low reduced frequency model. For simple geometries and boundary conditions, analytical solutions are available.

Initial and Boundary Conditions for the Lattice Boltzmann Method [PDF]
A new approach of implementing initial and boundary conditions for the lattice Boltzmann method is presented. The new approach is based on an extended collision operator that uses the gradients of the fluid velocity.

Fatigue accumulation in an oscillating plate [PDF]
A thermodynamic model for fatigue accumulation in an oscillating elastoplastic Kirchhoffplate based on the hypothesis that the fatigue accumulation rate is proportional tothe dissipation rate, is derived for the case that both the elastic and the plasticmaterial characteristics change with increasing fatigue.
