A numerical model of thermoacoustic heat pumping inside a compact cavity

open access: yesActa Acustica, 2023
This paper presents a numerical study of thermoacoustic heat pumping along a stack of solid plates placed inside a compact cavity submitted to an oscillating flow.

Controlling 3D Contractility via Engineered Fibrous Hydrogel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tunable composite contractile assembly (CCA) is developed that can permit or resist contraction without changing cell‐adhesion and density, unlike collagen whose inherent coupling of these ECM cues limits its use as a platform in contractility studies.

An innovative divertor concept, the fish tail divertor, for reducing the surface temperature on the divertor target plate in EAST tokamak experiments

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
An innovative divertor concept, the fish tail divertor, is proposed in this paper, aimed at reducing the surface temperature on the tokamak divertor plate as well as that due to the edge localized modes.

Bending and oscillations of plates

open access: yesIzvestiya MGTU MAMI, 2014
The author suggests a variant of the linear theory of thin plates, based on the assumption that the integral equations of dynamic equilibrium can be written for any volume in the undeformed state. Rigorous study of these equations, after the introduction of the concepts of kinematically equivalent displacements, are separated initial-boundary problems ...

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Design, Development and Evaluation of a Mass Flow Sensor for Grain Combine Harvesters

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Machinery, 2013
In grain yield monitoring system, the amount of clean grain mass flow rate to the storage bin is the most important yield property. In this research, an impact-plate type grain mass flow sensor was designed, developed and evaluated. After construction of

Observations of Oscillating Cavitation on a Flat Plate Hydrofoil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
An experimental investigation was made to clarify the characteristics of oscillating cavitation on a flat plate hydrofoil in a water tunnel. Dynamic the behavior of oscillating cavitation is discussed from the unsteady pressure measurements at the ...

Kelvin Probe Spectroscopy of a Two-Dimensional Electron Gas Below 300 mK

open access: yes, 2003
A scanning force microscope with a base temperature below 300 mK is used for measuring the local electron density of a two-dimensional electron gas embedded in an Ga[Al]As heterostructure. At different separations between AFM tip and sample, a dc-voltage

Dense Nanofibrillar Collagen–Silica Hybrids with High Strength and ECM‐Mimetic Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dense nanofibrillar collagen–silica hybrids are engineered by synchronizing collagen fibrillogenesis with silica condensation, producing printable scaffolds that unexpectedly approach native extracellular matrix organization and strength. These cell‐free constructs guide endogenous cell‐infiltration, enable localized matrix remodeling, and integrate ...

Inertia-driven flow symmetry breaking by oscillating plates [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
While cilia are generally found in viscosity-dominated regimes, those of a comb jelly, the longest motile cilia in nature, are used for propulsion and feeding in inertia-dominated flows. Motivated by the effective fluid transport of cilia at relatively high Reynolds number, the characteristics of vortex formation and fluid transport are investigated ...
