Cilia, or eukaryotic flagella, are microscopic active filaments expressed on the surface of many eukaryotic cells, from single-celled protozoa to mammalian epithelial surfaces. Cilia are characterized by a highly conserved and intricate internal structure in which molecular motors exert forces on microtubule doublets causing cilia oscillations.

A sharp oscillation result for second-order half-linear noncanonical delay differential equations
In the paper, new single-condition criteria for the oscillation of all solutions to a second-order half-linear delay differential equation in noncanonical form are obtained, relaxing a traditionally posed assumption that the delay function is ...

Drums of Doubt: On the Rhythmical Origins of Poetic and Scientific Exploration
In his article “Drums of Doubt: On the Rhythmical Origins of Poetic and Scientific Exploration” Caius Dobrescu argues that even though the sciences and arts of doubt have never been connected to the notion of rhythm, doubt is a form of energy, and more ...

Hydrodynamics Study of Riser with Helical Strakes Oscillating in Flow
To reduce the vibration damage to the riser, hydrodynamic parameters of a smooth riser and a riser with triple symmetrically distributed helical strakes are evaluated in an experiment. The wave and current in natural environment are conceptualized to the

Photothermocapillary Oscillators
We present a new class of tunable light-driven oscillators based on mm-scale objects adsorbed at fluid interfaces. A fixed light source induces photothermal surface tension gradients (Marangoni stresses) that drive nanocomposite hydrogel discs away from a stable apex position atop a drop of water.

New criteria for the oscillation of a class of third-order quasilinear delay differential equations
This paper establishes new criteria for the oscillation of solutions to a specific class of third-order delay differential equations. These equations, which have numerous applications in the physical and biological sciences, pose intriguing analytical ...

Oscillatory results for second-order noncanonical delay differential equations [PDF]
The main purpose of this paper is to improve recent oscillation results for the second-order half-linear delay differential equation \[\left(r(t)\left(y'(t)\right)^\gamma\right)'+q(t)y^\gamma(\tau(t))= 0, \quad t\geq t_0,\] under the condition \[\int_ ...

Functional differential equations in the non-canonical case: New conditions for oscillation
In this paper, we study the oscillation of a class of second-order nonlinear differential equations with mixed neutral terms in the non-canonical case. New criteria are derived that ensure the oscillation of the studied equation.

Oscillation theorems for certain third order nonlinear delay dynamic equations on time scales
In this paper, we establish some new oscillation criteria for the third order nonlinear delay dynamic equations $$\left(b(t)\left([a(t)(x^\Delta(t))^{\alpha_1}]^\Delta\right)^{\alpha_2}\right)^\Delta+q(t)x^{\alpha_3}(\tau(t))=0$$ on a time scale $\mathbb{
