Neutrino oscillations [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Particle and Nuclear Physics, 2013
This review summarizes recent experimental and theoretical progress in determining neutrino mixing angles and masses through neutrino oscillations. We describe the basic physics of oscillation phenomena in vacuum and matter, as well as the status of solar, reactor, atmospheric, and accelerator neutrino experiments that probe these phenomena.

Drums of Doubt: On the Rhythmical Origins of Poetic and Scientific Exploration

open access: yesHungarian Studies Yearbook, 2019
In his article “Drums of Doubt: On the Rhythmical Origins of Poetic and Scientific Exploration” Caius Dobrescu argues that even though the sciences and arts of doubt have never been connected to the notion of rhythm, doubt is a form of energy, and more ...

Cilia oscillations

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2019
Cilia, or eukaryotic flagella, are microscopic active filaments expressed on the surface of many eukaryotic cells, from single-celled protozoa to mammalian epithelial surfaces. Cilia are characterized by a highly conserved and intricate internal structure in which molecular motors exert forces on microtubule doublets causing cilia oscillations.

Oscillatory results for second-order noncanonical delay differential equations [PDF]

open access: yesOpuscula Mathematica, 2019
The main purpose of this paper is to improve recent oscillation results for the second-order half-linear delay differential equation \[\left(r(t)\left(y'(t)\right)^\gamma\right)'+q(t)y^\gamma(\tau(t))= 0, \quad t\geq t_0,\] under the condition \[\int_ ...

Neural synchrony in cortical networks: mechanisms and implications for neural information processing and coding

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2022
Synchronization of neuronal discharges on the millisecond scale has long been recognized as a prevalent and functionally important attribute of neural activity.

Oscillation theorems for certain third order nonlinear delay dynamic equations on time scales

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2011
In this paper, we establish some new oscillation criteria for the third order nonlinear delay dynamic equations $$\left(b(t)\left([a(t)(x^\Delta(t))^{\alpha_1}]^\Delta\right)^{\alpha_2}\right)^\Delta+q(t)x^{\alpha_3}(\tau(t))=0$$ on a time scale $\mathbb{

Photothermocapillary Oscillators

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2018
We present a new class of tunable light-driven oscillators based on mm-scale objects adsorbed at fluid interfaces. A fixed light source induces photothermal surface tension gradients (Marangoni stresses) that drive nanocomposite hydrogel discs away from a stable apex position atop a drop of water.

Second-Order Damped Differential Equations with Superlinear Neutral Term: New Criteria for Oscillation

open access: yesAxioms
This paper focuses on establishing new criteria to guarantee the oscillation of solutions for second-order differential equations with a superlinear and a damping term.

Oscillation criteria for third order delay nonlinear differential equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2012
The purpose of this paper is to give oscillation criteria for the third order delay nonlinear differential equation \begin{equation*} \lbrack a_{2}(t)\{(a_{1}(t)(x^{\prime }(t))^{\alpha _{1}})^{\prime}\}^{\alpha _{2}}]^{\prime }+q(t)f(x(g(t)))=0, \end ...

Small-Signal Input Impedance Modeling of PWM Induction Motor Drives and Interactive Stability Assessment with DC Link

open access: yesMachines
DC link power supply systems that integrate power electronic converters are increasingly being adopted. In particular, emerging “source–load” systems, in which the DC link interfaces with converters, have attracted increasing research interest due to ...
