Bistable Oscillator Theory Revisited
International Applied Mechanics, 2002The authors discuss dynamics of a bistable oscillator. Boundaries of motion manifolds are constructed which correspond to three different types of regular trajectories.

Theory of Mitotic Spindle Oscillations
Physical Review Letters, 2005During unequal cell division the mitotic spindle is positioned away from the center of the cell before cell cleavage. In many biological systems this repositioning is accompanied by oscillatory movements of the spindle. We present a theoretical description for mitotic spindle oscillations.

The author uses a version of Gårding's inequality to obtain a (nodally oscillatory) comparison theorem which can then be used to extend his earlier non-oscillation theorems [the author, Math. Nachr. 141, 289- 297 (1989; Zbl 0682.35008)] to the equation \[ \sum_{|\alpha|,|\beta|=0}^ m(- 1)^{|\alpha|}D^ \alpha [A_{\alpha\beta}(x)D^ \beta u]=0, \] where \(

AbstractIn the first section of this paper we extend an interesting result due to Nehari and develop some related ideas. The remainder of the paper has principally to do with sufficient conditions for oscillation of solutions of differential equations of the form y'' + p(x) y = 0, where p(x) is at least piecewise continuous on I: (a, ∞) and changes ...

Given \(A(z)\) entire, it is well known that all solutions of \[ y^{(k)}+A(z)y=0 \] are entire functions. The main result in the present paper is the following theorem: Suppose \(\rho(A)

A theory of generalized Bloch oscillations
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2016Bloch oscillations of electrons are shown to occur for cases when the energy spectrum does not consist of the traditional evenly-spaced ladders and the potential gradient does not result from an external electric field. A theory of such generalized Bloch oscillations is presented and an exact calculation is given to confirm this phenomenon. Our results

Prominence Oscillations: Theory
2003An extense observational background about the existence of oscillations in quiescent solar prominences has been gathered during the last twenty years. From these observations, information about different oscillatory parameters such as period, wavelength, phase speed, damping time, etc. has been obtained.

In undertaking the design of a crystal oscillator, an understanding of basic oscillator principles is not only desirable but essential. Therefore, a brief explanation of the operation of a crystal oscillator is given here. Basically, a crystal oscillator can be thought of as a closed loop system composed of an amplifier and a feedback network ...
