A three-species model explaining cyclic dominance of pacific salmon

open access: yes, 2010
The four-year oscillations of the number of spawning sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) that return to their native stream within the Fraser River basin in Canada are a striking example of population oscillations.

Genomics‐led approach to drug testing in models of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
GA text Genomic data from undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma patients and preclinical models were used to inform a targeted drug screen. Selected compounds were tested in 2D and 3D cultures of UPS cell lines. A combination of trametinib and infigratinib was synergistic in the majority of UPS cell lines tested, which was further confirmed in an ex ...

Local Flattening of the Fermi Surface and Quantum Oscillations in the Magnetoacoustic Response of a Metal

open access: yes, 2005
In the present work we theoretically analyze the effect of the Fermi surface local geometry on quantum oscillations in the velocity of an acoustic wave travelling in metal across a strong magnetic field.

Space-velocity thermostatted kinetic theory model of tumor growth

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences and Engineering, 2021
The competition between cancer cells and immune system cells in inhomogeneous conditions is described at cell scale within the framework of the thermostatted kinetic theory.

An approach for coherent periodogram averaging of tilt‐series data for improved contrast transfer function estimation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The contrast transfer function (CTF) is an imaging aberration that is a major resolution‐limiting factor in cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Precise CTF estimation is key to overcoming this limitation, but is particularly challenging in cryo‐electron tomography (cryo‐ET) data. Here, we present an approach for using geometric information to assist in

Braided oscillators [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2002
A generalized oscillator algebra is proposed and the braided Hopf algebra structure for this generalized oscillator is investigated. Using the solutions for the braided Hopf algebra structure, two types of braided Fibonacci oscillators are introduced. This leads to two types of braided Biedenharn–Macfarlane oscillators as special cases of the Fibonacci

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation affects behavior by biasing endogenous cortical oscillations

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2009
A governing assumption about repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been that it interferes with task-related neuronal activity – in effect, by “injecting noise” into the brain – and thereby disrupts behavior ...

Locate the Source of Resonance-Involved Forced Oscillation in Power Systems Based on Mode Shape Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
This paper proposed a new method to locate the source of forced oscillation that involves resonance with natural oscillation modes. The new method is based on comparing the oscillation mode shape of the forced oscillation with that of the natural oscillation that the forced oscillation resonating with. The location that has the largest angle difference

Signal amplification by unidirectional coupling of oscillators [PDF]

open access: yes2013 Phys. Scr. 88 015010, 2014
We report our investigation on the input signal amplification in unidirectionally coupled monostable Duffing oscillators in one- and two-dimensions with first oscillator alone driven by a weak periodic signal. Applying a perturbation theory we obtain a set of nonlinear equations for the response amplitude of the coupled oscillators.
