Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations in metallic Bi2Se2.1Te0.9 are studied in magnetic fields up to 35 Tesla. It is demonstrated that two characteristic frequencies determine the quantum oscillations of the conductivity.

Spatiotemporal dynamics of word processing in the human brain
We examined the spatiotemporal dynamics of word processing by recording the electrocorticogram (ECoG) from the lateral frontotemporal cortex of neurosurgical patients chronically implanted with subdural electrode grids.

Shape oscillations of human neutrophil leukocytes: characterization and relationship to cell motility [PDF]
When neutrophil leukocytes are stimulated by chemotactic factors or by substratum contact, they change their shape. Shape changes are a prerequisite for cellular migration and typically involve the extrusion of thin, veil-like lamellipods and the ...

Solar Oscillations and Convection: II. Excitation of Radial Oscillations
Solar p-mode oscillations are excited by the work of stochastic, non-adiabatic, pressure fluctuations on the compressive modes. We evaluate the expression for the radial mode excitation rate derived by Nordlund and Stein (Paper I) using numerical ...

Hippocampal phase precession may be generated by chimera dynamics
The 8 Hz theta rhythm observed in hippocampal local field potentials of animals can be regarded as a “clock” that regulates the timing of spikes. While different interneuron sub-types synchronously phase lock to different phases for every theta cycle ...

Bloch oscillations in Fermi gases
The possibility of Bloch oscillations for a degenerate and superfluid Fermi gas of atoms in an optical lattice is considered. For a one-component degenerate gas the oscillations are suppressed for high temperatures and band fillings.

Oscillatory character of changes in ultraweak luminescence from Nitella cells
Characteristics of changes in ultraweak luminescence of Nitella internodal cells under physiological conditions and after exposure to the action of biologically active substances are determined.

Brain plasticity is widely accepted as the core neurophysiological basis of memory and is generally defined by activity-dependent changes in synaptic efficacy, such as long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD).

Network deficiency exacerbates impairment in a mouse model of retinal degeneration
Neural oscillations play an important role in normal brain activity, but also manifest during Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and other pathological conditions. The contribution of these aberrant oscillations to the function of the surviving brain remains
