Bioinspired Adaptive Artificial Cilia With Tunable Sensitivity and Dynamic Range for Airflow Monitoring in the Central Airway

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A magnetically reconfigurable airflow sensor integrated with an airway stent enables tunable sensitivity and dynamic sensing range. Airflow‐induced cantilever deformation generates resistance changes, while an external magnetic field modulates sensor stiffness, enhancing sensitivity at low airflow velocities and extending the sensing range at higher ...

3D‐Printed Actuator Powered by Liquid Crystal Elastomer Muscles at the Water–Air Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Soft robots for unstructured environments require responsive, durable actuators. Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) provide large reversible deformations under thermal or optical stimuli. Direct ink writing enables fabrication of LCE actuators integrated with silicone, with mesogen chemistry and oligomers optimized for printable inks.

High‐Density Magnetomyography With Optical Magnetometers Reveals Spatiotemporal Patterns of Evoked Muscle Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Optically pumped magnetometers are employed to contactlessly map the spatiotemporal dynamics of the magnetic field linked to electrical activity of a skeletal muscle in vivo. It is demonstrated that localization of the clinically relevant innervation zone is feasible using this non‐invasive magnetic measurement modality. ABSTRACT Magnetomyography (MMG)

Red‐Light Tomographic Volumetric 3D Printing in Seconds for Fabrication of Colorless Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A custom red‐light‐responsive TVAM platform combines methylene blue, triethanolamine, and PEGDA to fabricate transparent crosslinked hydrogels. Light patterns are projected into a rotating resin container, where a sacrificial photoinitiator system enables rapid polymerization and colorless channel‐containing structures, utilizing low‐energy light for ...

Oscillatory behavior of nanodroplets

Physical Review E, 2004
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed in order to investigate the phenomenon of free oscillations of nanodroplets and the extent to which the continuum theory for such oscillations holds at nanoscales. The effect of temperature on these oscillations is also studied.

Oscillatory Behavior in the Corona

Solar Physics, 2013
We detect and analyze the oscillatory behavior of waves using a coronal seismology tool on sequences of coronal images. We study extreme-ultraviolet image sequences of active and quiet Sun regions and of coronal holes we identify 3- and 5-minute periodicities. In each studied region the 3- and 5-minute periodicities are similarly frequent.

Modelling oscillatory behavior in batch fermentations

Acta Biotechnologica, 1986
AbstractA batch fermentation is modelled with constant and variable yeild terms. It is shown that the model cannot exhibit oscillations if a constant yield term is used. Oscillations in the cell concentration, but not in the limiting substrate concentration, can be simulated if a variable yield function of the limiting substrate is used.

Oscillatory behavior in a spatiotemporal neuron

Proceedings of 1994 IEEE International Conference on Neural Networks (ICNN'94), 2002
In this paper, the time varying threshold of a spatiotemporal neuron (STEN) is explored. The computer simulation of time varying threshold shows that output of a STEN produces oscillations similar to a biological neuron. Further these oscillations differ in frequency when the inputs are spatially and temporally related.

ON THE GLOBAL BEHAVIOR OF SELF-OSCILLATORY SYSTEMS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 1993
The problem of the global behavior of the system with 3/2 degrees of freedom is considered in this paper. The results of the theoretical investigation of the case when the systems approach a nonlinear Hamiltonian system are presented. Using, for example, the Duffing-van der Pol equation, computer analysis gives good agreement with theory when the ...
