Effect of surface forces on oscillatory behavior of lungs

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1995
The effect of alveolar surface tension on lung dynamic behavior was investigated by measuring total lung and tissue impedances in excised rabbit lungs at breathing frequencies of 0.2–0.8 Hz and tidal volumes of 10, 20, and 30 ml before and after lavage with 3-dimethyl siloxane, which provided a constant surface tension of 16 dyn/cm.

Oscillatory behavior of nonlinear functional differential equations

Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 2001
The paper is concerned with the oscillation of the nonlinear functional differential equation (r(t)psi(x(t))x'(t))' + q(t)f(x(t),x(tau(t))) = 0 Using the integral averaging techique, we obtain a number of new oscillation criteria which complement and extend the results reported in the literature.

OSCILLATORY BEHAVIOR OF AN ELECTROSTATICALLY ACTUATED MICROCANTILEVER GYROSCOPE

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2013
This paper is concerned with the study of the oscillatory behavior of an electrostatically actuated microcantilever gyroscope with a proof mass attached to its free end. In mathematical modeling, the effects of different nonlinearities such as electrostatic forces, fringing field, inertial terms and geometric nonlinearities are considered.

Oscillatory Behavior in Electrochemical Systems

1972
A closed chemical system which is not in thermodynamic equilibrium will tend to relax asymptotically toward such a state as soon as the existing constraints are removed (e.g., when contact between the components is established, or, in an electrochemical system, when a galvanic cell circuit is closed).

Oscillatory Behavior of Understeering Vehicles

SAE Technical Paper Series
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Oscillations in understeering vehicles are occasionally described in the literature, primarily in terms of the poles of the yaw rate response, but perhaps not completely appreciated in their complexity.

ON GLOBAL DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF WEAKLY CONNECTED OSCILLATORY NETWORKS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2005
The global dynamics of weakly connected oscillatory networks is investigated: as a case study, one-dimensional arrays of third-order oscillators are considered. Through the joint application of the describing function technique and Malkin's Theorem a very accurate analytical expression of the phase deviation equation (i.e.

Detecting oscillatory behavior using Lyapunov functions

2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2007
Conditions are derived which guarantee the existence of oscillatory behavior for general nonlinear, high-dimensional systems. The first result is motivated by the energy transfer which occurs for example in an oscillatory LC circuit. A simple generalization of this energy transfer mechanism leads to conditions which guarantee the existence of ...
