Oscillatory thermocapillary flows

Advances in Space Research, 1993
Abstract Oscillatory thermocapillary flows are experimentally investigated for half-zone, floating-zone, rectangular, and cylindrical configurations for a variety of operating conditions. The onset conditions for oscillations, free-surface temperature distributions and flow structures are determined and compared to indicate the differences among them.

Extensional flow oscillatory rheometry

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2006
Abstract The measurement of extensional viscosity, particularly for low viscosity complex fluids, has long been recognised as both an essential and challenging rheological task. Many of the techniques currently available have drawbacks that either preclude the use of low viscosity fluids or provide varying levels of applied fluid strain. By combining

Flows above oscillatory ripples

Sedimentology, 1980
ABSTRACTThe flows above ripples of glass beads and ripple models have been visualized in an oscillatory water tunnel. Some ripples were observed to form without flow separation. Two types of vortices, the standing vortices without flow separation and the separation vortices have been observed, and their similarity is discussed.
