Concentration effects in oscillatory blood flow
Biorheology, 1969A continuum model of fluid suspensions is applied to the problem of unsteady tube flow of a fluid in which deformations of suspended particles are negligible. An expression is obtained for the volumetric flow rate as a function of suspension concentration.

The inception of sheet flow in oscillatory flow
Ocean Engineering, 1998Abstract A simple model is developed to study the inception of sheet flow in oscillatory flow based on the available experimental data. The inception of sheet flow in oscillatory flow is well defined by the simple model: A / d = KA 2 ω / ν + B , where A is the semi-excursion of wave orbital motion near the bed, d is the grain size, ω is the ...

Oscillatory flow of a fourth‐order fluid
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2008AbstractThis study deals with the incompressible flow of a fourth‐order fluid over a porous plate oscillating in its own plane. Numerical solution of the nonlinear problem governing the flow is given. The influence of various parameters of interest on the velocity distribution is shown and discussed with the help of several graphs.

Reconfiguration of elastic blades in oscillatory flow
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2018When subjected to a steady cross-flow, the deformation of flexible blades is known to result in the alleviation of the internal stresses in comparison to rigid structures. In the field of biomechanics, the flow-induced deformations of flexible structures leading to stress reduction have been often referred to as ‘reconfiguration’ in order to highlight ...

Oscillatory flow of blood in a stenosed artery
Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 1987The flow of blood in a cylindrical rigid artery, the wall of which contains a stenosis of small cosine shaped amplitude is considered. The blood is assumed to be a Newtonian fluid with velocity and pressure that have axial symmetry and are independent of the axial coordinate.

Oscillatory flow beneath a free surface
Fluid Dynamics Research, 1998Summary: We consider the two-dimensional fluid flow induced by a submerged oscillating circular cylinder under a free surface; the depth of the fluid is finite and the amplitude of the movement of the cylinder is assumed to be small compared to its diameter. Thus, the solution may be pursued by perturbation methods.

Interaction of spheres in oscillatory fluid flows
Physical Review E, 2007Rigid spherical particles in oscillating fluid flows form interesting structures as a result of fluid mediated interactions. Here we show that spheres under horizontal vibration align themselves at right angles to the oscillation and sit with a gap between them. The details of this behavior have been investigated through experiments and simulations. We

Oscillatory Flow in a Cone-and-Plate Bioreactor
Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 2004Motivated by biometric applications, we analyze oscillatory flow in a cone-and-plate geometry. The cone is rotated in a simple harmonic way on a stationary plate. Based on assuming that the angle between the cone and plate is small, we describe the flow analytically by a perturbation method in terms of two small parameters, the Womersley number and the

Oscillatory stokes flow in two dimensions
Mechanics Research Communications, 1994Plane oscillatory Stokes flow has been discussed using circular harmonics. The solutions for (i) longitudinal oscillations of a circular cylinder in an unbounded flow, and (ii) oscillational shear flow past a circular cylinder have been obtained. The stream function in (i) can be interpreted as a combination of Stokeslet and potential doublet, and in ...
