Oscillatory thermocapillary flows
Advances in Space Research, 1993Abstract Oscillatory thermocapillary flows are experimentally investigated for half-zone, floating-zone, rectangular, and cylindrical configurations for a variety of operating conditions. The onset conditions for oscillations, free-surface temperature distributions and flow structures are determined and compared to indicate the differences among them.

A regime of flow is defined as the transition from laminar to turbulent flow which is an inception of turbulence in the flow field. Knowledge of flow regime provides useful information for quantitative description of flow and its analysis. It also serves as the lower limit of sediment transport.

Transient and Oscillatory Granular Shear Flow
Physical Review Letters, 2004The forces and particle motion during transient and oscillatory shear of granular material are investigated experimentally. In a shear cell of Taylor-Couette-type we find that how a granular shear flow starts depends strongly on the prior shear direction.
