A note on wave number dependence of wavelet matrix compression for integral equations with oscillatory kernel

open access: yesJournal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, 2004
The wave number dependence of the wave matrix compression for the boundary element method as applied to the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation is investigated. It was found that there is a linear relation between the matrix-fill and the frequency.

The resonance phenomenon in the reaction–diffusion systems

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2001
A new mechanism of pattern formation different from the Turing and oscillatory instabilities in the reaction–diffusion systems was found. It is closely connected with the resonance phenomenon that appears in the models when Jacobi's matrix of the kinetic

Compact localized states in magnonic Lieb lattices

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Lieb lattice is one of the simplest bipartite lattices, where compact localized states (CLS) are observed. This type of localization is induced by the peculiar topology of the unit cell, where the modes are localized only on selected sublattices due to ...

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Multiscale Geometric Integration of Deterministic and Stochastic Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In order to accelerate computations and improve long time accuracy of numerical simulations, this thesis develops multiscale geometric integrators. For general multiscale stiff ODEs, SDEs, and PDEs, FLow AVeraging integratORs (FLAVORs) have been ...

Long-Time Asymptotics of a Three-Component Coupled mKdV System

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
We present an application of the nonlinear steepest descent method to a three-component coupled mKdV system associated with a 4 × 4 matrix spectral problem. An integrable coupled mKdV hierarchy with three potentials is first generated. Based

Inference of dominant modes for linear stochastic processes

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2021
For dynamical systems that can be modelled as asymptotically stable linear systems forced by Gaussian noise, this paper develops methods to infer (estimate) their dominant modes from observations in real time. The modes can be real or complex. For a real

Discrepancies Between Micro Versus Macroscale Viscoelastic Properties in a Microplastic‐Tissue Composite Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the discrepancies between bulk mechanics and spatial mapping in a tissue‐mimetic hydrogel model. Microplastic particles create localized stiff mechanical microenvironments that are detectable by cellular‐scale nanoindentation but leave bulk properties unchanged as measured by rheology.

A vacuum-actuated microtissue stretcher for long-term exposure to oscillatory strain within a 3D matrix [PDF]

open access: yesBiomedical Microdevices, 2017
Abstract Although our understanding of cellular behavior in response to extracellular biological and mechanical stimuli has greatly advanced using conventional 2D cell culture methods, these techniques lack physiological relevance. We developed the microtissue vacuum-actuated stretcher (MVAS) to probe cellular behavior within a 3D ...

Ca2+ transmembrane transport enhances oscillatory growth of cancer cell invadopodia

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Invadopodia, dynamic cancer cell protrusions, deform and degrade extracellular matrix (ECM) to facilitate invasion. Intracellular calcium ions (Ca2+) are critical second messengers involved in cancer cells migration, proliferation, and apoptosis, but ...
