Application of Multi‐Method Dating for Understanding the Gravettian North of Moravia, Central Europe
ABSTRACT This article presents the results of integrating three methods to assess the age of the Upper Palaeolithic site of Pietraszyn 11 (SW Poland), close to the Moravian Gate. Sediment chronology determined using optically stimulated luminescence produced promising, yet ambiguous results (51.0 ± 3.7 to 20.3 ± 0.7 ka).

Luminescence characteristics of quartz from Brazilian sediments and constraints for OSL dating
This study analyzes the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) characteristics of quartz grains from fluvial, eolian and shallow marine sands of northeastern and southeastern Brazil, with especial focus on the applicability of the single-aliquot ...

Development of techniques for high-resolution spatially-resolved elemental analysis in materials of interest in luminescence dating [PDF]
A series of analytical techniques have been developed to characterise the surface distribution of elements in a number of materials of archaeological interest, in support of current and future research in luminescence dating techniques. Under certain

The characteristics of settlement of Neanderthals in northern Central Europe during the earlier phases of the Middle Palaeolithic (Marine Isotope Stage 8–6) have been a matter of debate for decades, specifically regarding the population dynamics at such latitudes during the coldest phases. In this paper, we review the known archaeological record of the

We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

Zircon luminescence dating revisited [PDF]
Luminescence dating plays a pivotal role in Quaternary science, yet ongoing methodological challenges persist in refining the temporal range, accuracy, and precision of luminescence methods.

Palaeowinds and depositional conditions from Holocene loess in Sweden and Finland
The nature of deglacial and Holocene wind regimes in Fennoscandia is debated, as is the degree to which wind‐blown loess deposits exist in the region. Loess deposits in Fennoscandia are often relatively thin, discontinuous and less well‐sorted than typical loess, and questions remain over the degree of their post‐depositional reworking and the impact ...

The Middle Stone Age (MSA) is the major chrono-cultural phase associated with the emergence and evolution of Homo sapiens in Africa. Despite its importance, the MSA has not been evenly investigated across Africa, and West Africa in particular remains ...

Evaluating post-glacial bedrock erosion and surface exposure duration by coupling in situ optically stimulated luminescence and 10Be dating [PDF]
Assessing the impact of Quaternary glaciation at the Earth's surface implies an understanding of the long-term evolution of alpine landscapes. In particular, it requires simultaneous quantification of the impact of climate variability on past glacier ...
