Age, growth and food of the Burbot Lota lota in two eutrophic lakes in southeast

open access: yesFauna Norvegica, 1992
The growth and food of the burbot Lota lota was studied in two neighbouring meso-eutrophic lakes in southeast Norway. The burbot grew slower and reached smaller theoretical maximum lengths in Lake Øgderen than in Lake Rødenes (L∞ = 40.5 cm vs 69.5 cm ...

Cytological studies in the smelt (Osmerus eperlanus L.)

open access: yesHereditas, 2009
The cytology of the smelt, Osmerus eperlanus, has been studied. This salmonid has 2n = 54 with 8 pairs of metacentric and 19 pairs of acrocentric chromosomes, which gives an N. F. value of 70, the lowest value so far observed in the family. At meiosis 27 bivalents are formed, most of which are rod-shaped.

Invasive Species Appearance and Climate Change Correspond with Dramatic Regime Shift in Thermal Guild Composition of Lake Huron Beach Fish Assemblages

open access: yesFishes, 2022
Lake Huron has undergone dramatic and well-documented lake-wide food web changes as a result of non-native species introductions. Coastal beaches, which serve as nursery habitats for native and introduced species, are, however, relatively poorly studied.

Larval nematodes in stomach wall granulomas of smelt Osmerus eperlanus from the German North Sea coast [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Occurrence of stomach wall granulomas in European smelt was studled at 6 locations along the German North Sea coast. Identification of larval nematodes inhabiting these granulomas is provided for the first time.

Glycerol synthesis in the rainbow smelt Osmerus mordax [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 1995
ABSTRACT Rainbow smelt, Osmerus mordax, maintain high glycerol levels in winter to avoid freezing. After intramuscular injection of 14C-labeled glucose, [14C]glycerol was found in the blood, liver and muscle, indicating that glycogen is a source of glycerol.
