A NEW STAINING METHOD (OTO) FOR ENHANCING CONTRAST OF LIPID-CONTAINING MEMBRANES AND DROPLETS IN OSMIUM TETROXIDE-FIXED TISSUE WITH OSMIOPHILIC THIOCARBOHYDRAZIDE (TCH) [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Cell Biology, 1966
Al though the in t roduct ion of fixation of tissue with osmium tetroxide by Palade (8) ushered in the modern era of electron microscopy of biological materials, a need for greater contrast and greater resolution in visualizing membranous structures has ...

Reaction of osmium tetroxide with iodide ions

open access: bronzeJournal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, 1961
The reduction of osmium tetroxide by iodide ions in the presence of HCl yields a variety of products. A flow sheet of the products obtained is given. Spectra were found useful in establishing the nature of the mixed crystals. It is coneluded that the mixed crystals contain K/sub 2/OsCl/sub 6/ and a hitherto unknown iodo-chloro complex of the type K/sub

NUCLEAR PRECIPITATES IN PYROANTIMONATE-OSMIUM TETROXIDE-FIXED TISSUES [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Cell Biology, 1968
Recent biochemical studies indicate a significant role for sodium ions in nuclear metabolism. Protein and nucleic acid syntheses in the nucleus depend upon sodium, apparently through a stimulating effect of this cation on the transport of amino acid ...
