Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

FeDSNP‐Pa Nanoassemblies: A Triple‐Action Therapeutic Strategy Targeting Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Pyroptosis for Retinal Ganglion Cell Protection in Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
FeDSNP‐Pa, a metallized nanoparticle loaded with sodium pyruvate (Pa), exerts triple therapeutic effects by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), suppressing inflammatory responses, and inhibiting pyroptosis signaling pathways. This multifunctional neuroprotective strategy protecting retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) from elevated intraocular pressure ...

Osmotic concentration of the gastric juice of dogs

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 1969
1. The freezing point of the gastric juice, produced by histamine stimulation in anaesthetized dogs, of the arterial plasma and of the plasma obtained from a gastric vein were measured.2. The osmolality of the blood that passes through the gastric mucosa increases during secretion of acid juice.3.

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Osmotic Concentration and Dilution in the Mammalian Nephron [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 1960
The micropuncture evidence relating to the location and the mechanism for concentration and dilution of the urine is reviewed. As required by the countercurrent hypothesis for urine concentration, these data demonstrate that in the presence of antidiuretic hormone, the tubular urine is first concentrated in the descending limb of the loop of Henle and ...

3D Bioinspired Hair‐Based Solar Evaporator for Efficient Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐derived solar evaporator inspired by blackbody radiation is developed using human hair waste. The vertically aligned hair structure enables broadband light absorption, efficient thermal localization, and rapid water transport, achieving high evaporation rates and stable desalination performance.

Continuous‐Flow Photocatalytic Degradation of Glyphosate and Aminomethylphosphonic Acid Under Simulated Sunlight with TiO2‐Coated Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Membrane

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Glyphosate (GLY) and its primary metabolite, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), are photodegraded using a poly(vinylidene fluoride) membrane with immobilized titanium dioxide (PVDF‐TiO2) in a continuous flow‐through operation under solar light. At optimized conditions, the PVDF‐TiO2 membrane achieved 95% GLY and 80% AMPA removal with •O2− as the ...
