Biochemical changes and manifestations of envenomation produced by Odonthobuthus doriae venom in rabbits

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2006
Many toxins from scorpion venoms cause neurotransmitters release by activating the autonomic system. The aim of the present work was to determine osmotic fragility of red blood cells (RBCs) and serum biochemical changes produced by the venom of ...

Effects of Oral Supplementation of Vitamin E on Fragility of RBC in Hemolytic Anemic Patients with G6PD Deficiency

open access: yesBangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Journal, 2009
Background: Vitamin E has role in maintaining the integrity of red cell membrane by preventing oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids and thereby protects cells from oxidative stress- induced lysis in G6PD deficiency, which can be reflected by changes ...

Erythrocyte fragility in hyperthyroid patients [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Kerman University of Medical Sciences, 1997
Mild anaemia among patients with hyperthyroidism, reduction in intracranial zinc content of erythrocytes and anti- haemolysis of whole blood of patients with Graves, disease under laboratory Condition are the facts which indicate that although ...

Changes in red blood cell osmotic fragility induced by total plasma and plasma fractions obtained from rats bearing progressive and regressive variants of the Walker 256 tumor

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2003
Two variants (A and B) of the widely employed Walker 256 rat tumor cells are known. When inoculated sc, the A variant produces solid, invasive, highly metastasizing tumors that cause severe systemic effects and death.

Oxidative and osmotolerant effects in Salvator merianae (Squamata: Teiidae) red blood cells during hibernation

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2021
Hibernation is a natural condition of animals that lives in the temperate zone, although some tropical lizards also experience hibernation annually, such as the lizard native from South America, Salvator merianae, or “tegu” lizard.

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Erythrocyte osmotic fragility and lipid peroxidation following chronic co-exposure of rats to chlorpyrifos and deltamethrin, and the beneficial effect of alpha-lipoic acid

open access: yesToxicology Reports, 2014
The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of chronic co-exposure to chlorpyrifos (CPF) and deltamethrin (DLT) on erythrocyte osmotic fragility, lipid peroxidation and the ameliorative effect of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) on erythrocyte fragility ...

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Effects of pesticides on the osmotic fragility of erythrocytes – A brief review. [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2009
Despite their applications in other fields, agriculture is the main source of environmental contamination by pesticides. Pesticides and their metabolites have been found in the oceans, soil and atmosphere, and are probably responsible for the loss of ...

Red Blood Cell Fragility and Reticulocyte Count in Hemolytic Anemic Patients with and Without G-6PD Enzyme Deficiency

open access: yesBangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Journal, 2010
Background: Erythrocyte G-6PD enzyme deficiency is an important cause of Hemolytic anemia with consequent increase in reticulocyte count. Objective: To assess the osmotic fragility of RBC status and reticulocyte count in G-6PD enzyme deficient patients ...
